This is why I wish Alex23 never created this thread. Because what happened to Jason Pegg was serious, as he almost died in a warzone. Now, people in the real world would generally not call Jason a savage, war-criminal or an idiot in so many words. Nor would they try to compare him to Hitler or his causes/ thought processes through some incredibly murky and contrived moral relativism, most likely in an attempt to sound hip or "with it". Some would say thanks, shake his hand (whats left of it) by him a beer and move on. But of course we have our much vaunted "GetBig TinyTit Keyboard Warrior Taskforce" that descends on this man and tears the man apart, although I think hes shown he can take it.

Now Matt C, I actually did not know you were in the military. I take it you are Canadian, not a knock, but from your post I take it you were part of the the Canadian military? Did you go to Afghanistan or anywhere else? Your service certainly does lend you credibility, but of course, everyones experience is different I guess.

"If police and soldiers were smart, they wouldn't be police and soldiers to begin with.  Tongue  That's not politically correct to point out, but it is nevertheless true."

Oh you never denied it, but you sure did waste no time telling our faithful readers that if police and soldiers were smart then they wouldn't be police and soldiers. Good one though.

Ultimately what I'm saying is that if they had career options outside of police and military services, they would probably take them.  I found that most of the guys on my basic training had no other choices, and even within the military, they could only join the infantry, rofl.  ;D

Care to elaborate?  BOth on what we should be doing and what caused you to see the light and become so selfish?

Jason

What I specifically mean is that to get a job as a soldier or a constable does not require a particularly high level of intelligence.  I won't say that any monkey can get the job, but intelligence requirements are not very high.

As for selfishness, I think a lot of the actions of the US military are selfish, and Canada just does whatever the US tells them to do.  As I said, if I felt I was fighting for a cause which was virtuous, I would never have quit the military.

I would post more of my excellent service record on here, but I will just be bashed for it anyway.  It seems that no matter what I may have done in the military isn't helping the people on the other side of the debate realize that I have seen both sides, and decided to formulate my view accordingly.  I didn't just come to this point of view through academic research as some on here think.

I just talked to a friend of mine who I did basic training with at the gym today.  He served in Afghanistan shortly after I quit.  He was not in denial at all about the reasons for the Afghanistan invasion.  He knew it was totally based on opium profits.  He pointed out that the production has only gone up since our participation there.  I was glad to see that at least he understood the true reason why he put his life on the line.

You "quit" the military, everyone know that soldiers serve in war for one another, not politics or politicians. You must be pretty popular, to "quit" while your fellow soldiers go over seas. When it comes time to pull the trigger, ultimatly its your decision. I love it how so many guys think the military ORDERS you to kill, thats complete bullshit. You guys are great you think you know every thing about something because you've seen a couple youtube clips.

For six years, the Bush administration has kept America safe from another terrorist attack, allowing the Democrats to claim that the war on terrorism is a fraud, a "bumper sticker," a sneaky ploy by a power-mad president to create an apocryphal enemy so he could spy on innocent librarians in Wisconsin. And that's the view of the moderate Democrats. The rest of them think Bush was behind the 9/11 attacks.

Your poor attempts at dodging the question are laughable.  You left out how you were retarded, but are now better.  Perhaps missing that solidifies your point.

One can make this generalization about men: they are ungrateful, fickle, liars, and deceivers, they shun danger and are greedy for profit; while you treat them well, they are yours. They would shed their blood for you, risk their property, their lives, their children, so long, as I said above, as danger is remote; but when you are in danger they turn against you. -- Niccolo Machiavelli

Jason, for every Punk Ass Bitch like Matt, there are 100 Men and Women and Children around the Globe that respect you, and know what we are at risk of.

If he wants to see his standard of living reduced to the stone age he should just move to Iran, Afghanistan, or Iraq and not promote things that would drag down the rest of the civilised world to that level.

He owes you a big thankyou for being able to have the freedom to shoot his mouth off.
Seems to me most combat soldiers know and even support this, even if its repulsive.

Id say don't lower yourself to his level.

Its a good thing he was never hurt, because he don't have the integrity and fortitude to recover and move on.

A end-game slide show of his life's crowing accomplishments and experiences will be a yawn no doubt.

Keep on improving w/ the arm, and know you have support from way more than the few critical assholes w/ nothing to do but complain about their unsatisfactory state of affairs in life.

This is pretty self explanatory:

If police and soldiers were smart, they wouldn't be police and soldiers to begin with.  Tongue  That's not politically correct to point out, but it is nevertheless true.

And not understanding this proves my point.

Not to be mean or anything but you would be the last person I would want covering my back in any situation after reading your posts.  You couldn't be trusted because you are the type that would turn around and run when something went down..  My brother is a cop and I promise you 10000000000% his education blows you out the door and so does his awards and accolades.  He has met 3 presidents in his life.  Everyone of them invited him.  He graduated with a degree and became a cop instead of a pro football player like everyone thought he was going to be.  He did this because he wanted to help people who needed help.  Guys like you use an excuse because in simple terms you are afraid.  It takes a certain person to volunteer to be a cop or in the military.  Look at Tillman.  It's alright if you are afraid and you want to use this excuse but to say these guys aren't smart is pretty stupid on your part.

That's not politically correct to point out, but it is nevertheless true.

Yeah, I don't want to jump on the anti-Matt bandwagon, but that struck me, too. I've got a slew of academic stuff I could decorate a wall with...probably look pretty impressive to some. If I had to guess, they're in a box in my storeroom. I could be wrong tho.

Why would someone "way too smart to serve in the military" have a wall full of plaques showing his accomplishments while in the military ???

When it comes time to pull the trigger, ultimatly its your decision. I love it how so many guys think the military ORDERS you to kill, thats complete bullshit. You guys are great you think you know every thing about something because you've seen a couple youtube clips.

You don't even know what my military service record is.  I have certificates of appreciation from everyone ranging from Majors from my local reserve to high ranking Colonels in base commander positions to former Prime Minister Jean Chrétien.  I have months of field training, and when I say months, I mean that by the age of 20, I had spent over two full months of my life field training with the military, 24/7.  From my experience, training is a lot harder than actual operations, although there is more of a real danger threat during operations.

I would be happy to help my fellow man or risk my life for something that I loved and truly believed was a genuine cause.  Being politically aware, it was impossible for me to stay in the military knowing that an immoral and illegal war was being fought for oil monies at the expense of so many innocent people and their children.

Keith, you have to admit, this is a typical post from you.  ;D  You are bigging up your brother much like you big up yourself in posts.  But to respond, I will point out that there are some soldiers and police officers who do choose to do what they do.  From my experience in the military, I would say the majority do it because they have no other options which would pay as well given their level of education.  As an example, I cite my friends in the infantry - I have done plenty of infantry courses in my day, three QL4s which are all Corporal qualifiers, including mountain ops and winter warfare.  Most of the infantry soldiers I worked with were not qualified for any other trades.

Matt, perhaps if someone crashed a couple of jets into your house, you'd feel differently.

Fair enough, Ed, and perhaps you would feel differently if 76,000 people around you were killed for oil profits.

I guess everyone needs a "me" wall ::)

Lisa

That's in my house, and I still have a box full of awards sitting in my basement - since the walls in two rooms were covered in them and there were so many left over.

Dude you were a radio operator; in the rear with the gear.

I also got top honours on my basic training course which was instructed entirely by infantry with the exception of two medics.  Also, half of the troops in my course were in the infantry and I still kicked their butts.  ;D  The infantry instructors were begging me to transfer, and when I did put in my transfer papers I was informed the next day that I did not qualify due to my poor vision (at the time 20/200, now 20/12 thanks to LASIK).  As I pointed out above, I did plenty of training with the infantry, enough to keep my rank even if I had transferred.

I'm still waiting for someone to explain to me the moral justification of all the bloodshed from the Iraq war.  Saying that we get to use the internet and watch television and swim in heated pools because of the war is not good enough.  I would rather sleep on a mattress in a shack than know that my quality of life came from the blood of innocent people and worst of all, their children.

Comment: A hero amongst us.
Matt C: I would say that depends if the war is moral or not.  Do you think the war is moral?
Comment: The war IS moral!
Matt C: So it's moral to fight a war that resulted in the deaths of (very conservatively) 76,000 innocent people so far?
Comment: ...well, our quality of life is higher now that the US is involved!
Matt C: So the war isn't moral, but you're justifying it with the "means to an end" principle?
Comment: Hey, who are you to talk?!  Your [sic] just some keyboard commander who has never left his mother's basement.
Matt C: [posts parts of military record].
Comment: [bashes Matt C's military record].  Well, you never trained in the infantry.
Matt C: [posts proof of years of infantry training].

...

Great debate so far.  It's really nice to see no remnants of any civilized debate whatsoever that you guys are actually providing me with facts and evidence so that I can discuss my point of view more clearly.
