I was giving you a hard timer.  Melatonin are good if you have slight sleep disturbances, but IMHO, they are worthless WRT fullblown insomnia.  I once took 30mg of melatonin and it still tool almost 3 hours to sleep.

Jason

I agree. For people with an occasional sleepless night or two melatonin is good. However if you have chronic insomnia as you seem to have or I do, it is worthless.

Melatonin and benadryl work for me in a pinch.  I've noticed that my insomnia is worse in the winter, and almost non-existent when vacationing in a sunny place.  I've been using a light therapy device for 2 weeks now, and I haven't fallen asleep this easy in years.

http://www.amazon.com/NatureBright-SunTouch-Plus-Light-Therapy/dp/B000W8Y7FY/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1202014979&sr=8-1

I use it for 30 minutes upon waking.  Took 3 days for me to notice the difference.

I was prescribed ambien when I was also on prednisone.  It was the second time I was going on prednisone, and I was refusing to let them put me back on it because of the insomnia I got from it.  So, they gave me ambien.  It seemed to work fine for me countering the side effects of the prednisone.

Also had it on my second deployment, when the flight surgeons gave it to us to counteract the "go" pills they were also giving us...

If you just have a slight problem sleeping it will work fine. If you are a real insomniac it will make you sleep for 2 or 3 hours and wake right back up.

Navy.... suspect the "go" pill (dextroamphetamine) is probably less damaging than coffee on the boat...

I was on it for approximately 2 years straight.  I did have the distinction of being one of the "nioght bingers" and had some absolutely BRUTAL amnesia eating, often over 10k calories at a rip.

Jason

Exactly, I would find myself sitting at the kitchen counter stuffing my face. On one occassion I woke one morning to find the kitchen in a shambles and had no memory what so ever of my late night binge.
I do remember having some insane dreams.

WTF?  It's like 4:55 here & I am up checking out the latest news on getbig.  Yes, I do have a sleeping problem.  When I find the ultimate solution, I will let you guyz know, k? ;)

My usual remedy is "3" 3mg melatonin (Twinlab is the best) & sometimes 1 or 2 Simply Sleep caps.  If this doesn't work, try some "Sleepytime Extra" Tea.

Hey, great sex helps too!!!!

Makes you drowsy as hell, doesn't really induce REM sleep. Also you are drowsy the next day, forget about getting anything done the next day.

Stuck in Korea as I am I will be lucky if I can get Valium. Hopefully I can get Ambien as well.

I don't know if I can get my hands on it here. But I can get my hands on Valium (Diazepam).

It seems to be the safer if these are the two options. Plus it is effective as a muscle relaxant.

I don't know. But trying Ambien once is worth a shot. I am familiar with valium and can always go back to it if need be.

For those others who have insomnia here, how the fuck do you work out consistently and well with so little sleep? I mean I find it fucking hard!

THe Diazepam will work good for you.
Some like to Take it several times daily. Perhaps a bottle or two at once will help?

Your problem is your liberal fantasies are striking discord with the small common sense part of your brain.

Hope this helps.

Seriously, Watch out with the Valium dumb dumb.

10-20 mg.s a few hours before bed should suffice.

I like Val, esp for recovery from brutal exhaustion or muscle spasm, but carefull gettin on a extended run.
The WD's are potentially life threatening.

Moderation is necessary. Powerfull drug.
coming off a long V run, the system will ramp to supercharged Al-Unholy-Hell.
Nuthing to downplay.

I have heard that. I have been taking them for years and if I stop for a day or two I feel weird, don't know how to explain it really, but I hear voices and get bad anxiety. Doubt I will ever stop taking them though, I would probably drink myself to death if I didn't take benzos to unwind.

Anyone notice getting real emotional the next day after taking Ambien? It's a fairly common side effect.

No. Just a little bit of a cloud for a few hours after waking up.
