When I lived in NY, there was this Rico Sauve mexican guy who would come to the gym in board shorts and sandals. He had his hair slicked back like Antonio Banderas and would leer at the women in the gym. Pretty much a douchebag.

He was doing bent one arm rows with one leg on the bench, one leg perched backwards and outwards on the floor to balance. My training partner at that time was Dave Visher, a second string linebacker who played for the Jets. He was 6'2" and well over 300 lbs and was doing incline presses with 140's and at the end of his set sent them flying forward and a bit to his sides.

Unfortunately for Rico Suave, his sandaled foot was directly in the path of the dumbell flying out of Dave's left hand. I even yelled out "Oh Shit!" but there wasn't enough time and Suave's foot was made into puree. That shit would have hurt wearing Doc Martens, I can only imagine how it felt with sandals.

My wife laughed and had to go to the locker room to compose herself. She hated all the mexicans who would just stand there and openly stare at the women with creepy blank looks on thier faces.
;D

how do you consider a moron getting a 140 pound db dropped on his bare foot not an injury?

He did not drop it on himself, it got THROWN at him, which is an offense, not a selfinflicted injury.

Dave, please write

"dumbbells getting thrown at people is not 'hurting themselves'" 1000 times for me until monday. Otherwise i might have to give you another afternoon in class and an E in english.

I'd consider his choice of footwear as accomplice to his injury. Thus, he's brought it upon himself.

BTW, I went nowhere near the injury for fear of teh Aids.

One more.

When I first started training, I was at a little aquatic & fitness center that had the OLD benches.  You knw, the ones that you had to lower the weight directly onto the rack, becuse there was no guard behind it.

Anyway, dud is doing bench w 225.  No problem for him, he usually repped with 365.  As he was going to rack the weight, he sneezed and missed the rack, didn't let go of the bar and when the weight crashed to the ground behind him, just before the crash, there was a audible...POP!

He dislocated his freakin' shoulder!

He stood up screaming with one shouldr about 4 inches lower than the other.  Nasty!

Fortunately, there was an orthodontist (yes, teeth!) in there that put it back in for him and drove him to the ER.  Now, I don't know what kind of orhodontist he was (well, that's a lie, he did my braces!) but he was damn good at re-inserting shoulders!

there was this one tool bag, round 20 who always squatted heavier than he could handle, went up to 4 plates and went down 4 inches, should have stuck around 4 plates...u know the drill, had his knees wrapped headphones blasting and the funny thing was his dad was always his workout partner....well one day i turn around and look across the gym and the bar was on the safety bars and he was lying on the floor, the tool bag got rolled out on a stretcher, not sure what he did exactly but he was back in there a few weeks later squatting with only 2 plates ;D

Back around 91' a guy at the Gold's Gym in Honolulu had a heart attack while benching and yes the bar came down and crushed his neck.  He died.  Back around 1980 or so a guy in the Original World Gym named Buggsy (an older chubby guy) used to bench with such a high arch his friend (Tony Nowak) would pretend like he was climbing under him.  He ended up dropping the weight on him and it hurt his back really bad.  The worst thing that has happened to me would be when I pinched the end of my nipple off

I once saw this older guy crack his melon open. The guy was attempting to do lower back hyper extentions on a freakin roman chair...lol....people are so clueless. Sure enough he fell over with the piece of equipment and he belted his head of the floor. Blood everywhere and totally unnecessary.

Some good stories there. Keep em coming  :)

Any stories about people getting injured, or injuring themselves, or accidents or whatever.

I haven't seen much myself. I saw a guy fall on his ass in the smith machine, I dont know what he did just heard the crash.

As for the guys wearing sandals, they deserve to get dumbbells dropped on them  :D

I've been taken out of a gym in an ambulance.   I dislocated my knee, couldn't pop it back in and a trainer called an ambulance.  I didn't know he had called until the EMTs showed up.  They told me they weren't allowed to mess with joint dislocations and would have to take me to the ER so a doctor could reset it.   I'd dislocated that knee before and it popped right back into place.....this time I couldn't get it.   While in the ER a random doctor saw me, told me to grit my teeth, grabbed the joint and popped it in and said, "Bill him."
