Your video series on bb.com are great but they never get down to the details of the last few days before a show.  Everything from what you eat to stop eating, drinking water, drying out, shaving , adding the tan etc....right up until you step on stage.  I'd love to hear what goes into the last few days.

I've heard crazy things like competitors downing bottles of red wine backstage to add vascularity.  Stuff like this is interesting.

Most of the last minute "prep" details are ridiculous, and counter productive...often leading to coming in anything BUT 100%, and more often coming in off and looking better at ANY point in the last 2 weeks, than on the stage...

If I had a nickel for every time I've heard "Man, If only I looked like I did on friday...(sunday, mon, etc...)".......well......I'd have a lot of nickels.

What about drying out?  How extreme have you went with not drinking water?  How hard was it to not drink?

...that doesn't mean it's not interesting.  I agree with MOS, your last line is the exact reason why it would benefit more competitors to see what other guys are doing last minute.

Not very....if you know what you're doing, you cut your water DOWN on friday a little and stop drinking when you go to bed....like normal. It's the diuretics that will get you in trouble (as I can attest first hand)

Some coaches don't want their players having sex with their girlfriends/wives before big games because "women weaken legs".  Does the same philosophy hold true before bodybuilding contests?

I think, part of the " I looked better the day before and/or after" the contest has a lot to do with being under the harsh stage lights vs reg gym lights. Plus, when you strip down backstage at a good show, you are not the only guy who is ripped and it kinda blows your mind compared to standing next to other gym rats NOT in contest shape.

I think it's got WAY more to do with all the "Voodoo" prep that guys tend to think will result in some un-realistic look on stage....

I don't totally agree. Most of it has to do with inexperience and insecuritie. I.E. If I eat too much, "I'll spill over".

Many go out after the shows and eat pizza, pasta, etc. - they look better the next day.

Thanks and I also agree with Chic that 90% of so called "peaking regimes" do more harm than good.

The old "woman weaken legs" myth has a lot more to do with staying out late and not getting sleep than actual sexual acts.

I think the most common misstake in getting shredded is that the person never got shredded and just think he was shredded before the show, and after seeing the photos from the contest realise he wasn't and blame it on the lats days of the preparation.

Looking hard with some nice abs and veins popping out from your arms and good pump is not being shredded, despite your friends who have never been competing think u are awesome.

Most guys don't get hard enough on stage and blame it on the last days preparation, that bullshit, they have never been hard enough since they started their diet.

Second misstake is that most bb think they holding water when their definitions isn't what they want them to be, in 90% of the cases it's pure FAT.

The most common mistake one can make is posting pre-show pics on getbig with claims of creatness.  During the final 2 weeks before a show, the lack of carbs can lead a competitor to the delusional belief that he is on par with past Mr O champions in terms of size or rippedness. 

Onstage, they look good, but they're still rank amateurs, and they're quickly exposed in full body shots.

I spose getbig is good motivation for shows... but for some people, it's too much pressure.

When I compete, I get low enough bodyfat and don't do any of that crap. It's nonsense and I come in condition each show. If you get shredded, you're shredded. When people say they looked better the next day and that they were holding water at the show, it usually is the water they drank that let them fill out. I never watch or read interviews after a poor performance because it will either say "I peaked too soon", "I came in flat", "I was holding water". The first one can't be fixed, but the second two would be changed if you DRINK some water. When you carb up for the night show you should be drinking a bit of water too, you'll look flat if you don't get enough water.

Yo do diurtetics?  The ones you get at GNC what ones do you use or suggest?
