I find it inherently rude to live somewhere and not speak the language - plus why would you not want to? First thing I did upon moving to an english speaking island was to slave on the skills. All my family did. In my native island english isn't the language, and we have english speaking folks come to work as bartenders, dive instructors etc for years on end....and never even like muster up basic skills in the language?

People do it everywhere, a strange thing, and very, very rude imo. I even cringe at crappy english when folks have lived somewhere for years. After 20 years, you mean to tell me you can't bust decent language skills out?

Was in the mall today and I would say that at least 25% of the people I walked by weren't speaking English. PANTALONES!!!!! Then again, was a Tuesday morning and they don't have anything better to do.
