That's what I was referring too. I know genetic factors and inherited diseases aren't a product of someones actions. I was talking about those who are willfully reckless. Smoke, eating, drinking, drugs and other dangerous behavior, this should be taken into account. If I don't smoke, eat right, have a solid physical, bloodtests, liver enzyme counts etc, I should be rewarded for that. This would also provide economic incentive for people to take better care of themselves which in-turn is good for the nation as a whole.

Ok. Moosejay seemed to misunderstand my post and I didn't want to be lumped in with him.

My prayers and well-wishes are with you too.

I have a 21 year old cousin fighting cancer as well.

Even while many getbiggers flame each other, at times of actaul tragedy with one of our own we all share the grief.

Look you buffoon,
You are not capable of rational thought. You probably think you should have Police Insurance or Fire Insurance so if someone who gets their house broken into they should be denied protection or if their house were to be on fire, the Fire Department should skip over and let it burn.  Your same mentality would have Federal and government employees without healthcare.  I digress, but the government can and will do things correctly.

You would rather have Laura agonize and wither in pain simply because she can`t afford medical care?  A service that could EASILY be taken care of if we spent just a fraction less on Bombs, Guns and Hummers?

Your ignorance is overabundant you knuckle dragging dolt.

Good fucking post man, people like Coach just dont get it...but, maybe this isnt the best time to discuss those matters

Huge point.

You are a product of your actions.

Why pay for the actions of others?

When the american government can either hide, steal or lose trillions of dollars a year and very few people even bat an eye about it, don't you think that we as a civilized people can make sure that all people have basic rights to food, shelter and medical that can save lives?...

Hi everyone.  I went to the thyroid surgeons today as you guys know.  Came home not feeling well.  He had to spray stuff into my nose and throat so he could slide a camera down to my voice box from my nose.  That stuff, plus the medication that i took for the anxiety and all the collected information I received regarding what's going on made me very nauseous.  Then I had to drive up to the hospital that I had my CAT Csans done and pick up the images and reports for both surgeons to review (they want to review the chest lymph nodes in the film).   The surgeon I saw today is going to call the thoracic surgeon and organize the plan.  The plan thus far (as explained to me by this surgeon) is that he will go in through a 6" slice in the fold of my neck and remove the thyroid and lymph nodes in my neck and send them off to the lab for testing (this will decipher how much radioactive treatment I will need after the surgery).  He explained the risks of damaging my parathyroid glands (if damaged I would be on high dosages of calcium for the rest of my life..not that bad) and the nerves in my neck that control your voice, swallowing and breathing.  He also explained  the risk of coming out with a tracheotomy if the nerves are torn or cut which can happen (niiiiiice  :-\).  He then said after the removal of the thyroid and lymph nodes in my neck, the thoracic surgeon would then go through his opening and down behind my breast bone to collect some lymph nodes from my chest for the biopsy.  If there are any complications from that (say the surgeon can get to the nodes, or he does get to them and they come back from the lab and show cancer) my chest would need to be cut open, but is hoping it won't be the case.

So, as it stands right now, this surgeon wants to do this asap, so he's calling the thoracic today.  I will see the thoracic on Thursday and will most likely he will tell me (after speaking with the surgeon I saw today) what day I'm going in.

Needless to say, I am a nervous wreck and not thinking very well.   So please excuse me for any typos or if something doesn't make any sense.  I just want this to be done and over and everything good again.   :'(

Thanks again for all your thoughts and prayers.  They do help.  :-*

I am really sorry that you're having to go through all of this. Even though I've never met you, I feel like I kind of know you and Mike from this site. I live fairly close to you guys, so if one day you need an errand run or something like that, let me know.

Well, people who have life threatening diseases or conditions will usually get their hospital bills waived even if they don't have insurance. Nobody just contracts cancer and dies because they can't get care. This simply does not happen in the United States.  ::)

Universal health care for 300 million people would be a disaster and would mean increased taxes. We've already got a huge national debt to wipe away and universal healthcare on top of that would be absolute murder.

The people acting as though people in the US are dying because they're left for dead due to not having insurance don't obviously know what's going on. We already have cheap/free insurance for most poor folks in New York state. Like a visit to the doctor requires a $5 co-pay, and additional $5 for any medication. You telling me a person cannot pay $5?  ::)

So shut the fuck up about some hypothetical poor kid contracting cancer and dying because he couldn't get care.
