It was the tendon,not the muscle.Its not a big deal.The bicep usually moves down the arm a bit,but you cant notice it in poses,except perhaps a side chest.He will be able to train just fine.It normally only bothers you on bent rows[but I find if my hands are facing each other like in a t-bar row its fine] and bicep training.Since his biceps are already great,I dont think it will impact him that much.

I have personally had a torn biceps tendon, and it is A BIG DEAL you moron.
The pain following surgery, which is full on under the gun anesthesia surgery, is incredible. It takes months, if not a full year to recover from. You cannot train ANY upper body at all, and you cannot do squats because you cannot hold onto the bar.
The only exercises you can do for 4-6 months are leg extensions and curls, that is it.
