Knee Pain! Please Help!
« on: October 16, 2008, 09:11:31 AM »
My knees really hurt when i do any non-machine movements, i take glucosamine for my joints, but that doesn't seem to help the pain.  I try and do some dynamic stretching before i work out.  Is there anything that could help at all?

What kind of pain. Aching, sharp, dull? What kind of non-machine exercises?

sharp pain, doing squats usually or hack squats
i havent been to an orthopedist because i go to a university and our health centers always full b/c kids are getting colds and viruses all the time.  i guess i could check to see if they would be able to help, i didnt know if there were exercises to help it out.

anything you all would suggest would be great, i'd like to get back to doing squats asap

This may sound too easy, but when is the last time you got new athletic shoes?   My right knee always hurts when it's time for new shoes.

two things, stop bouncing out of the bottom of hack squats and stop heavy leg extensions, both of those things are the most common, most infamous wrecker of knees and DEFINITLEY don't do leg extensions before squats.

i always try to go slowly with hack squats, i havent done leg extensions in a while because the gyms machine is broken...if it wasn't for the hot girl working there i'd make the commute to the non sucky gym

Skip leg workout for a week and quit doing hack squats.

Every single time I do hacks I have pain on both my knees for days after, it doesn't metter what foot position either, it just fuckin hurts.

I have found that is the only exercise that causes me pain, no matter how much weight I use.

i started trying to massage the leg muscles around my knee (quads) and it seemed like there was a lot of tension there.  I'm always rubbing the kinks out of my gfs back, and it seemed like both legs had something like that there. I'll try light weight next week with my leg wraps and see how it goes.

theyre Nike Frees and theyre pretty old
i have some Nike Reax (like cheaper Nike Shox) shoes but they have support for running and no "real" support for squats, i'll try them out though and see if they work.

I squat in old ass vans and I know at least one guy that squats barefooted or in a pair of worn out converse.

It's time to turn those Frees into mowing shoes and buy a brand new pair unless the Reax are new.

Hope it's something simple like that :)

Will you not go barefoot because of your toes?  Really, they're not that bad!

:-X :o

Not interested in walking barefoot in the gym. :-X

Seriously, I don't know anyone personally that wears "supportive" type shoes for squats or hacks.

I think he may need new shoes...nothing w/special support or anything, just new ones.  Hopefully!
