certain exercises recruit more muscle fibers plain and simple. Rows recruit more fibers then pulldown, front squats activate the quads more.

EEG studies have been done which show that certain movements do this. Bench is better then hammer strength for example.
IIRC, once you reach failure, all the fibers in the muscle are being activated, regardless of exercise.

changes up all the time.. traon on "instinct"..but last back workout was this..=

-superset pulldowns and straight arm pulldowns pyrmid up with 10 total sets (5 each)
-db rows pyramid up 5 sets total
-seated cable rows pyramid up 5 sets total
-superset straight arm pull downs and pulldowns and going to failure on each set (pyramid down in weight) with 10 total sets (5 each)

normally i like to do somethign like that with everyworkout...start and finish with the same thing..always an iso kind of movement..

Brutal attention whoring, no one was asking for your pics, skinny.  ::)

Hmm, maybe I should have been more specific...

I am a believer in the effectiveness of deads and was hoping to give some kind of support to the exercise. Just keep in mind I'm not a mass monster (obviously) but figured I would go ahead and get the pic out of the way since it was unavoidable a call-out would be forthcoming. The pics cand posted seem to be natural and so am I so I thought the comparison was worthy.

edit: Yeah, people obviously didn't understand the "bread and butter" comment in my original post, or didn't read it thoroughly to begin with.

tl;dr DEADLIFTS R GEWD

Well from the looks of it, you don't exactly follow your "bread and butter" plan yourself, "TommyBoy."  :-X

I don't feel deadlifts do much for my back but my favorite back movement is underhand barbell rows.

awesome exercise

Coming off the Nationals I have backed off heavy training for the next couple of weeks until I begin my official off-season after the holidays.  In other words, my training now is basically to stimulate the fibers and get some muscle activation going on.  I'm only training Mon, Wed, Fri, & Sat right now.  In regards to back I'm using this time to experiment with feeling out some upper back and lat stretching movements.

Not everyone has achieved the Ronnie standard of back development, believe it or not.

Sounds good.  I see so many people killing declines because they can do more weight because it is a shorter movement.  They dont build shit.  Your on track Tbombz

I think declines are better than inclines. Inclines are shit, that's why pecs are so crappy nowadays, no one does flat or decline presses. And, flat presses are better for upper pecs than inclines, declines probably too!

What ever you say, your back is very faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaar from the standard of pro.
Even I(Shitty natural amateur like me) am wider than you. Just go back to the basic and train extra hard.
Forget those small tricks(stimulate fiber only....brah brah) and just train extra super hard. No more excuse.

Why wouldn't it be?

Could you post a comparison pic of a pro who built his "lower lats" up? Never seen it happen myself.

Peter's current shape = the shape he will always have. And back will always be relatively weak, no matter what he does. His back isn't weak because he neglects it.

I'd bet Peter's been prioritizing his back for years now. It's not like he needs people to tell him it's weak.
