I believe that Reagan appropriated 6% deficit spending as a proportion of GDP.  Obama is proposing deficit spending of nearly 13%.
Reagan cut taxes and drastically improved unemployment.  I supposed some good, some bad, but overall, his administration was very sucessful.

Reagan also raised the payroll tax specifically to create a surplus which he then borrowed to fill the gaps left by his tax cuts.  He basically increased taxes on workers to pay for tax cuts to the wealthly.

Isn't David Brooks a conservative?

He doesn't seem very impressed with the content of Jindals speech

So.  And?

Beach, thanks again for that info.  I've eaten Morningstar Farms "burgers" and they do taste good.  I will look for more stuff. Thanks!

No problem.  We had Buffalo Wings last night.   :)  http://www.seeveggiesdifferently.com/product_detail.aspx?family=365&id=317

So.  And?

so and.....here's a true conservative responding immediately after hearing Jindal's comments and being extremely critical of the content.

Brooks is a conservative who understands that in time like these it is actually the role of the goverment to take action and in fact the government is the only entity large enough to take action and have some effect.
Doing nothing would be a disaster.  This has nothing to do with "Big Brother" or other such jargon.

Obama gets an A for style (as usual) and a D for content.  He doesn't get it:  Big Brother is not the answer to all of our problems.

I'd give Jindal a C for style and A for content.   He gets it:  Big Brother is not the answer to all of our problems.

I'd love to see Jindal become more of a national figure.

It's a conservative with a different opinion.  Big deal.

What Jindal said is right on the money.  I really don't care if his delivery was average.  But because style is more important than substance when it comes to presidential elections, he'll definitely have to work on his delivery if he's going to be a serious national candidate.

Yep.  Very good.  My wife did the sweet and sour thing last night.  I don't really like that, but I drown it with Tabasco when she does that.  My kids usually use Ranch dressing for those.  Good stuff.

he actually critical of the current plan but even more critical of the "do nothing" talking point that is making the rounds.  I think Brooks was more critical of the content than anything else and really didn't spend much time on the style or delivery
