Yes, I do realize my hypocrisy of railing against the lame practices of the industry, yet trying to get into that industry. I'm not trying to fight a war, i'm trying to make some money and have fun doing it. oh well.

Other than live performances, how do you see musicians making money going forward? The CD model, for all intents, is dead, as everyone is downloading. I don't even see the need for record labels anymore. Their main value was in distribution. Now, there's nothing to distribute. An artist can just record his music and post it on his webpage.

As an aside, Kings of Leon wouldn't want to follow this band in its prime.

Rap isn't music. It's entertainment. I'm not condemning it, I enjoy some of it. But it's not music. It has no place on a thread about rock bands.

Neil wrote 'Alabama' and 'Southern Man.' Didn't sit too well with Ronnie (who was from Florida!!!) who then wrote Sweet Home Alabama as a retort. Neil's response to being called out by name was the song 'Walk on,' on the On the Beach album - ie. let it go, bro, let it go.

Rap is a joke, anyone can rap....it's called TALKING.

Let me put it to you like this. If you asked me to Rap a B.I.G song, I could do it. give me 20 minutes and I'll have it word for word.

Hand me a guitar and tell me to play some Van Halen, and I wouldn't know where to start.

Just another indication of this generations style over substance mentality.

A case of two guys from very different worlds. Jimmy Page - a guy who spent years as a well respected session musicaian before Led Zeppelin formed. Diddy - a guy who spent most of his time behind a production desk working with a genre based on synthesized beats and samples/

If a band or an artist has great technical ability, i can respect that, but if their music doesn't do it for me i'm not gonna listen to it.

A good case raised already with U2. The Edge is a good technically gifted player ( i would say a great one) but for me his band just do nothing for me. Vertigo is the only U2 isong i've come close to liking.

For me the ideal band has to have great ability and great songs. See The Who, AC/DC, ZZ Top, The Stones etc.

I disagree. I think the edge is not very good at all. He couldn't play basic rock 'n roll covers because he only knows how to make noises with electronic effects.
