If you look back at the history. Adolf hitler actually came pretty close to pulling all of that off. If the US waited any longer to get involved, he might have ! Also the Germans were the best at so many things back then. They invented so many things. From the modern highway, to the Atom bomb !

No Mercedes and BMW are premium Marques. Plus it has been stated that BMW is diluting it cars, buy coming out more and more derivatives of the same car (such as the X6, X5, X3, X1) or one could say, that BMW is creating Niches, like the 135i coupe, which other Automakers including Mercedes are scrambling to compete against.
Cadillac is doing very well and making strides to be a top tier prmium brand, trying to get back to being "The Standard of The World". Check the Caddy CTS and CTS V.
Porsche is basically buying or truly gonna own VW.
