BRUSSELS -- The Belgian bodybuilding championship has been canceled after doping officials showed up and all the competitors fled.

A doping official says bodybuilders just grabbed their gear and ran off when he came into the room.

"I have never seen anything like it and hope never to see anything like it again," doping official Hans Cooman said Monday.

Twenty bodybuilders were entered in the weekend competition.

Cooman says the sport has a history of doping "and this incident didn't do its reputation any good."

During testing of bodybuilding events last year, doping authorities of northern Belgium's Flanders region found that three-quarters of the competitors tested positive.

Yes! And thera lots of other sports that use even more steroids that bbing... The difference is that 90% of bbers do not deny the use of steroids, but in every other sport, 90% of the athletes deny the use of steroids... So which one is more respectable? ;)

No there are not a lot of other sports where they use more steroids than bodybuilding. There are a lot of drugs in other sports, cycling for example, but steroid use is highest in bb, with the exception of powerlifting where some use very heavy stacks. Then again it's not impossible to be a good powerlifter in the IPF for example without drugs, and place well, even win sometimes. But that's largely due to the assistance gear they use to their advantage (= they aren't extremely strong muscularly but are technicians and use the suits well). I know for a fact that you could take a medal at World Champs in IPF PL without ever using steroids. Medal in IFBB World Champs - not going to happen without drugs.

Bodybuilding = drugs. Other sports = drugs are involved but it's not an absolute impossibility to be a good tennis player or whatever without massive steroid use. Unlike bodybuilding.

thats right, whats funny is that you need to take steroids to win a medal in the IFBB worlds yet the IFBB test the bodybuilders and act like they have an anti doping policy, ::)

When out in public, ofcourse.
Don't ask me why a certain law is active or not, I don't make them  ;)

the key word in my question was looking like a pot head, not being intoxicated in public, but just fitting the profile.   you said that officials can order a drug test for just looking like you might have used steroids in the past.   can they randomly stop people and order tests for pot for just looking like a stoner?

Still... 90% of the athletes you mentioned never admit the use of steroids, which, in my point of view doesn't make them more respectable...

When out in public, sure, why wouldnt they if they are deemed suspicious?

because anyone can be deemed suspicious at any time.   In the US that would be a violation of the 4th Amendment.
