Yes, and outside of the old campus near High St. where the law school, Sterling Library, Bass Library and the rare book library are, it's not that nice. Granted the buildings in that part are incredible. But it doesn't even feel like a university campus unless you're near the colleges or in that area because it's so spread out and intertwined with the shithole that is New Haven.

Can argue that Harvard has a better law school as well. Yale's gets a lot of points for having a much smaller class size.

Well lax I would say yeah it's gonna be harder for them and in the neighborhoods they live in makes it even harder.  But a good, strong leader of Mother can do it if she is not lazy and has her shit relatively together.  My dad died when I was young (6) my Mom stepped up to the plate, got herself educated (College degree from St. Xavier's) was able to buy us a new house in a decent neighborhood and she stayed strict with us.  She did not let us just do what ever we wanted, she made sure we went in the right direction.  Even though I fought it and  made life her hell at times.  Was it the best circumstances?  No, but it turned out OK in the end.

I have seen documentaries on the ghettos and sometimes you will see these single parent kids with good strong mothers and the kids are good, smart, determined kids who are not in the gangs and they are getting ready for college you know they will make it just hearing them talk.  Same hood , same # of parents situation just one parent is good and does the right things the other not.  So yeah its all about the parents or in many cases just the Parent.

Oh, that it were so simple.  Having a 'lower IQ' doesn't mean one has an inherent lack of ability to do or motivation to get a job.  How high must one's IQ be to do roofing work?  Law enforcement? 

Sure, we typically want the smarter people advancing to higher levels, but there's no reason why someone with average aptitude but an incredible work ethic shouldn't be considered for at least limited advancement, too.

Excellent points.  I'm not sure why black kids have always been so fascinated with martial arts and 'kung-fu movies', but you're spot-on.  A man like that could certainly attract an audience and captivate some young minds.
