Ok...lets review....in 1941 Hawaii was a Territory of the United States.

The Territory of Hawaii was an organized incorporated territory of the United States that existed from July 7, 1898, until August 21, 1959, when it was admitted to the Union as the State of Hawaii.The U.S. Congress passed the Newlands Resolution which annexed the former Kingdom of Hawaiʻi and later Republic of Hawaiʻi to the United States. Hawaiʻi's territorial history includes a period from 1941 to 1944 when the islands were placed under martial law. Civilian government was dissolved and a military governor was appointed.
Ur "king" asked us to do so in 1900. it was in no way a country. US bases on that island were considered US soil. We were attacked by Japan, not aliens..not US pilots wearing Jap uniforms, flying Jap planes.....Japs. Ur wrong...go play in traffic.

DID YOU EVEN READ WHAT YOU POSTED!!!!... Hawaii under force and threat from the american military threatened to kill the KING AND QUEEN OF HAWAII UNLESS THEY SIGNED OVER A MAJOR PORTION OF OF HAWAII and the Hawaiian People had to surrender all of their rights and voice in government. This took Hawaii from being and INDEPENDENT NATION to a Republic then to full blown annexation...a cute term to mean a MILITARY TAKE OVER AND DETHRONING OF THE KING. Still up until 1959 Hawaii was NOT a part of america and the only thing so called american about Hawaii was the naval station forcibly built there. What the Japanese bombed was an independent country which had an america naval base on it. Sorta like another country bombing Okinawa's military base. The end result would still be the bombing of an independent nation. In the case of Hawaii they were BOMBED even though they had nothing to do with WWII.

You gave a better answer than the foolish HH6, and though partially right, not completely right. The Prime minister of Japan at the time was friends with Hitler and other leaders in Europe which for some reason america hated (keep in mind america installed Hitler into power in Germany). In an attempt to break that friendshipm, america started capturing the oil shipments to Japan which stirred their ires. The Prime Minister informed america numerous times if it did not stop this aggresive action Japan would retaliate. America continued to provoke the matter with continued attacks on the Japanese oil shipments, which caused Japan to attack the base of america's so called pacific fleet which was harbored in Hawaii.

Now isn't this much better, hearing THE TRUTH ABOUT WHAT REALLY HAPPPENED AS OPPOSED TO THE ENDLESS LYING SCENARIOS!?!?!?!?! America was guilty of being a provocateur nation and rightly deserved to be attacked...Japan should have gone after the mainland as opposed to attacking innocent Hawaii...the effect would have been to bring warfare right to the people/nation which would have changed the mindset of americans about war and its devestating effects.
