Bertil looked great in certain poses and in gym shots but when he dieted down he was a lot less impressive
You had no one to blame but the judges and the criteria they judged the competitors by. Bertil was forced to lose his trademark size in order to be competitive with lightweights (of which he naturally wasn't).
I remember having read an article from Muscle and Fitness from the early 80's and he said that the judges wanted him to go down to Boyer Coes size (210 pounds) and he said they're making me be the same size as that damn YANK who I outweigh by 25 pounds and he doesn't have a pair of 22" arms like I do.
Anyways, at the end of the day he gave into the judges and ended up losing anyways and by the mid 80's, he was a SHADOW of his former self.
A 1982/1983 Bertil, if encouraged to maintain his mass would have been a forced to be reckoned with by 1987.
