I'm sorry to burst your bubble but he really was very small. About the same size as Ronnie Coleman's leg. At his best when he won NABBA Universe we weighed 210 lbs. Yes his arms look massive on their own but his head was tiny. Check the vidoe of the 1983 Olympia and you will see that Samir was actually larger than Fox when standing side by side. Fox was similar in size to Makkaway.

His small man syndrome caused his violent attacks. In London he worked on the subway as a porter. He tried to make driver several times but failed the phychometric tests which showed that he was borderline psychotic and shouldn't be in charge of the lives of 500 passengers.

Bertil Fox surely enjoyed lifting weights,  no doubt about it.

So, not was he only overlooked in 1982-1983, but he's still being overlooked in 2009 by complete fucking idiots who claim that he was the same size as 5'2" 160 pound Mohammed Makkaway.. ::) ::) ::)

Have you ever personally seen him back in the early 80's.  You must be at least 6'6" and 350 pounds to say he was small.  Do you have your glasses on

Yes I saw him many times since the 70's competing and guest posing at the NABBA shows. At a Mr North East of Britain show I couldn't believe how massive he looked on stage then later on I stood next to him at the bar and realised how tiny he is in real life. I'm 5ft 10 and 220 lbs. He came up to my shoulder.

Yet he was only about 3" shorter than 5'11.5" Lee Haney in 1983. Tough guy.

YEAH, you're apparently the same height as 5'9"-5'10" Sergio Oliva and Bertil can barely see over his SHOULDER because he's short as a midget and as frail as a bird  ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

ALSO, he's the same size as Makkaway eh?  ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

Fox' biggest drawback was his lack of width and subpar legs...as far as muscularity was concerned, he could stand his own with anyone...

Great from the front, mediocre from the back

Bertil looked great in certain poses and in gym shots but when he dieted down he was a lot less impressive

Bertil said he was "About 5'8 I think" in the DVD below [note: the links need to be updated, go directly to the http://www.GMV.com.au website if you want to check out Bertil's DVD]:

http://www.bodybuildingpro.com/bertilfoxseminarandposingdvdreview.html

I think Bertil was having a little trouble with the conversation, but I do not think he was below 5'8.  He stood about the same height as Rich Gaspari who was around 5'8:

Bertil's lack of width was only prominent in the back poses.  From the front I think this weakness was not as apparent:

My website is a nice little archive with lots of DVD screencaps from the GMV vids, unfortunately no one is really interested in the history of bodybuilding other than Tim Fogarty, Joe Roark, and myself.  ;D

You had no one to blame but the judges and the criteria they judged the competitors by. Bertil was forced to lose his trademark size in order to be competitive with lightweights (of which he naturally wasn't).

I remember having read an article from Muscle and Fitness from the early 80's and he said that the judges wanted him to go down to Boyer Coes size (210 pounds) and he said they're making me be the same size as that damn YANK who I outweigh by 25 pounds and he doesn't have a pair of 22" arms like I do.

Anyways, at the end of the day he gave into the judges and ended up losing anyways and by the mid 80's, he was a SHADOW of his former self.

A 1982/1983 Bertil, if encouraged to maintain his mass would have been a forced to be reckoned with by 1987.

Albert's a bit closer to the camera. Bertil was 5'8" in his younger days. You can see that when he's doing a side chest with 5'11"+ Lee Haney.

And we have a guy on here claiming that Bertil came up to his shoulders and this guy is only 5'10".  ::)

I think in retrospect, he probably saw his hair-trigger temper and association with mouthy people as bigger drawbacks for him.

Gaspari also got 5'9" listings in the 80's, but he was closer to 5'8". Haney had 3" on him. Haney was 5'11", even though I've sen him described as 5'11".5" and 6'0" at times (he was taller than Dorian in 1991).

Bertil could allegedly bench press 525 for 3-4 reps at his strongest.
