I got pulled over today (Seattle police shooting)
« on: November 30, 2009, 12:46:06 PM »
...and boy are they 'on their toes' today after yesterday's seattle shooting.

I only got a warning... It seems I turned over a double yellow line in a construction zone.

Anyway, they saw my permit, asked if I had a gun, and immediately detained me in cuffs for 15 minutes while they ran everything under the sun to ensure I was a 100% good guy with no violations on anything.

They were very nice, but explained after the 4 cop shooting yesterday, every cop in town is being super-vigilant with concealed weapons today.

"You're not under arrest, but I wish to detail you with handcuffs so that I can remove this handgun from your person"

They were nice, but it was a pain in the ass.  Thanks, a-hole from seattle  >:(

no, I don't have a southern drawl.  I lived in OH until I was 16.  And I'm an educated person, not all hilbillty, etc.... But I am a bit burly, unshaven, and teabag-looking, I suppose.

It did suck.  90 minutes later, I still have the grooves on my wrist from those hard ass handcuffs.   Very uncomfortable feeling.  I know it was 'for my own protection', etc, but yeah... I didn't enjoy it.

The lesson was.... Keep the piece in the glove box and avoid that.  :(

They were DEFINITELY repubs! haha.... not Obama fans.  They told me the seattle cops managed to shoot the bad guy in the stomach... i talked to them about the huckabee relationship... they said they're probably looking for a body, with the gut shot, but I pointed out my own brother (of nearby pharmacy shooting fame) got a guy in gut with .45 JHP from a glock, and the guy drove to miami for surgery.  They knew I wasn't a POS scumbag, and treated me nicely... while I was in cuffs haha...

Very decent guys... I mean, I could sit in a bar and talk politics or sports with them.  Dropping F-bombs and complaining about this and that.  They were doing their jobs, I get that.  Still, it sucked.

33,

I admire and support what law enforcement do.  I have a few in my family, and the rest of us are either gun dealers or carry them daily.  Still, that's not the world for me.  I'm a stay-at-home kinda guy.  Cops have to face some serious stress - 24/7.  I'm not up for that.

BodyProSite,
I know how tough their job is.  Four cops died checking their email over coffee yesterday.  nine kids between them . That is some seriously terrible shit.  the cops were very apologetic about having to handcuff me, and kept my  hands below level so my son in the car would not see.

it sucked, but they realize they have a gun on person, and well, I'd have done the same thing myself.  They did it classy, it was an inconvenient 15 minutes, and I know not to turn over a yellow in a construciton zone.  Both them, and I, handled the situation like pro's and it was quick.

It is what it is Mal.  IMHO, Huckleberry deserves a ton of blame.  The system was on notice of this savage long before this event.

the officer told me the charge on the guy - who huck pardoned or whatever - was sex with a CHILD.  under FL law, a "child" is under 8.  that's insanely sick.

No, this savage was not fit for earth and had a lengthy violent record to where he should have stayed in jail for life.

Doubt it.  From what's coming out lately, he appears to be pretty fucked up in the head.  He might even be a legitimate insanity case from what I've been reading.

I have to agree, ...but at the same time, ...you also have to know when to choose your battles.

These guys are nervous as heck, doing a thankless job and don't want their colleagues making a call to their loved ones. 240 had his child with him in the car. Sometimes, ...there's got to be a little give & take, a little understanding & consideration for the position the other guy is in. You gotta know when to choose your battles and not sweat the small stuff. A nervous paranoid cop with an itchy trigger finger could have offed him and gotten away with it... he was going for his gun. Dead men can't rebutt the testimony of a LIVE perjuring witness, ...and when a man is already dead, ...it's easy to perpetuate a lie to keep another from going down too. Telling the truth wouldn't bring him back to life. But ya, I agree. It was a wrongful arrest. Anytime you cuff someone, they are under arrest. If 240 is fine with everything, ...then I am too.

yeah, his eyes did turn to dinner platters when I calmly said "yeah, I have the gun in my pocket".

I could have made a stink, but I didn't.  I know what a thankless job being a cop can be.  I know they all wanna get home to their families, and every stop can be that one nutbag.

Plus, physically, that cop was smaller and weaker than me.  If he had reached for my weapon and I had decided to make a move, I probably would have been able to hurt the guy.  he was polite, apologetic, and he said we could do it outside and blelow window level so my son didn't see.

They had a shitty job to do, but they did it with professionalism and courtesy.    Like jag said, misunderstandings do happen, and I was sure careful to move slow.  Four of their fmaily were iced in cold blood last night.  They're on their toes.

LOL... I'm not from FL... so luckily I'm still pretty easy to understand when speaking.

I think the dems and repubs would probably both agree we're in a 'less free' society evrey day.  This particular example sucked, and it's a reminder that not only do we live in a less free place, but that things are more dangerous for police than ever.

I sure wouldn't suggest 240 fight them on it there.  I would have went along with that under those conditions too. 240 can do what he wants, I'd make an issue of it later.  They're probably trigger happy just looking for someone to take it out on.
