That's interesting.  I would have asked what kind of dog.  You must be a people person.

this sounds like that miller light commercial--with the dude and his bulldog...

I respect your honesty but do feel valuing animals over humans is a sign of either mental disease/dysfunction or deep childhood issues.

I have neither, I've just seen what humans are capable over the past 30 years and it's sickening -- most people are fuking morons. People just don't have morals these days and the world only gets worse. Animals love unconditionally, something most humans don't know how to do. They're about as innocent and pure as it gets. Save a human and he'll probably rob you blind to repay you.

I realize petwits are given to anthropomorphizing but animals can't love.

I'm not arguing that people are perfect. Let's be honest, most people suck ass. That being said, we still have an obligation to other humans and relieving their suffering even if it is simply to protect our own individual way of life.

i thought we have an obligation to all living creatures...human and animal alike...at least thats what just about every religion practiced on all parts of the globe seems to think.

You should brush up on religion. The bible (depending upon translation) says something along the lines of 'dominion or rule over creatures' not "obligation" I'd never argue (unless seriously bored :) ) that Obligation and responsibility do not go hand in hand with power. That's not my point and someone who has taken an animal into their home should be a responsible pet owner. That responsibility is for their pets and I really can't justify interfering in someone else's interpretations of responsibility and obligation when there are so many real problems in the US.

There are also religions that believe animals shouldn't be killed or eaten due to them being people who were reincarnated as lower life forms.

i think you need to do the brushing up...dominion doesn't mean leaving it out on the street to die..i think you are a bit confused...

in the jewish faith...a common mitzvah (good deed) is caring for an animal who is suffering...

In the words of Maimonides, "If one encounters one's friend on the road and sees that that person's animal is suffering from its burden, whether the burden is appropriate for the animal or is excessive, it is a mitzvah to remove this burden (Mishneh Torah, Hilkhot Rotzeah 13:1)."  I think an animal suffering on the street can qualify as an excessive burden to an animal.

you need to brush up yourself..read the torah fully before you talk about dominion over the animals being the only mention in the bible.

You're silly. I could easily find a book that justifies sacrificing animals.

YOUR HIGH. quit acting like and assclown.  People for the most part create their own misery. where as animals are helpless victims.
If I were in Haiti my priority would be to the human element first.
