I do - I love my dog and am fine with him jumping on the bed (provided he is clean and washed etc). But some of my friends (especially guys who don't have dogs) think its gross and unhygenic - what do you guys think?
I love dogs, but dogs should sleep in a little doggie bed
beside your bed—not
in your bed. As someone else stated, man’s best friend is inherently unhygienic. They do, and get into, lots of things that you never see. Fleas aren’t the only insects that get into their fur. Big dogs in particular should not be climbing onto your furniture. A lap dog sitting on your lap for a few minutes is one thing, but that is as far as it should go. How often do you take your dog to get groomed? You say your dog has no “dog smell.” I am certain that is not true. Every mammal has a substantial smell—including your dog; you have simply grown so accustomed to it that you no longer notice it. If you have carpet then those odors are in your house. Again, you are simply inured to it. Tile or hardwood floors can help minimize this depending on how often you mop your floors. I guarantee that visitors or newcomers to your home notice the smell. Have you ever lived on a farm? It's the same dynamic; you don't notice what you smell every day.
I have dated a couple guys who let their dog sleep in the bed. They were quickly crossed off my list. I never told them why, but that was the reason—or at least one of thee reasons. If the dog is sleeping in the bed, that is his space. Do you want to sleep with a person or a dog? Cats are much cleaner than dogs, but even they should not be climbing onto furniture or sleeping in your bed. They belong in a little kitty bed.
You may have heard the phrase “love me, long my dog.” I actually agree with this. As I said, I am a dog lover, but dogs should not be sleeping in your bed.
