what design tools do you use?

Any tool that's handy, but usually Adobe Creative Suite. I purchased Design Premium CS4 and recently paid for the CS5 upgrades. Usually I use Dreamweaver, Illustrator and Photoshop. Haven't used Flash in a while but I could still code some AS 3.0 if I had to. I sometimes use Notepad ++ for markup and code ( html, php etc. ) I use a mouse tablet for drawing and painting.

did you go to school for website design?, or did you teach yourself?, and if so do you have any good resources to learn how to develop websites.  Thanks for your help

You can teach yourself easily enough, but I got certified in college and I'm currently continuing my education at university. Many design studios require certs, but if you're very good at designing you can work around the certification thing.

http://www.lynda.com/ and http://www.w3schools.com/ are good places to start.

That's easy. Book a flight to New York and set up a strategic meeting with one of their top agencies. They'll probably start at $10k or so. Once done, establish a budget of $50k-$100k to hire the company to create you a top notch, no compromises website.

When done, post link to GetBig and we'll let you know how you did.

x2

genius dude is gonna spend 6 months starting a romanian website about reptilians, and only get views from getbiggers via google translate

the website does not mention reptilians

it is about learning to decode yourself using color tone and archetype

no need to google translate as it will have an english and a romanian version

you inspired me to add a new service, helping “confused young males“ ... it'll involve therapy where you will be forced to watch nude young women and even touch them ... restrains are provided as well as buckets for vomiting

I appreciate your input ...but :

I am not a dude who needs a blog lol

I am launching a professional website fully configured with its own domain name world wide with press releases and stuff ...

I am setting the standard at what I do and have no time to learn how to create a webpage. It is not some hobby .. I do this full time. I wanna pay professionals who can gimme what I need, meaning a FULL website. So not sure webmaster is my thing

Also the design on my website and the navigtion is very unique and particular .. at east thats what I envision. So I need a top professional do do this for me .

Well you see that shows already that you really either haven't done your job in research or you don't know what you're talking about ;)

1) Wordpress is not a blogging software anymore - it sure was a few years back - but its now a CMS Content Management system - as I said there are thousand of hacks and mods for free that you can the posibilities are endless, furthemore themes are usualy heavily CSS based so you can easily do your own theme if you really need to (or hire somebody who can do that for you)
2) I highly doubt that you will need anything more powerful then a shared hosting account - unless you have just found the idea for the "new myspace - or twitter" you most likely have to fight for traffic until your page has either enough backlinks or google ratings to get you better known.
3) What do you mean your navigation is "unique"? I can only recommend you have a look at similar very large webpages and see what how their navigation is layed out - they paid a lot of money to get it right and one thing visitors hate is some obscure layout or navigation - in order to convince visitors that your page is worth checking out (10 seconds is all you got on average) you need to have a simple and uncluttered possibly web2.0 design (depending on what you are shooting for) - in most cases its much better to go simple (check youtube) they have a simple design of course because their traffic is so savage that they cannot afford to have a theme with bells and wistles hanging of them but their design and page laypout is also tested and works.
On average most visitors don't really care how the webpage looks (don't get me wrong it is important to have an intelligent and simple to the point layout) but are more interested in the content you have.
4) Maintaining and working on your webpage to make it big is hard work, times are well over were you could make millions on the wed in an instant, its bloody hard work and excausting with mostly many setbacks, if you are not prepared to put the work in and look for freeloaders forget it, it ain't going to happen.
If you have a great idea and you need to hire people to do the work for you - go to webmaster forums and hire a designer and coder who can custom build what you want.

Most webpages are like a marathon, its never how fast you can run but how long and how much you have prepared yourself for your business.

Edit: I think thats the last advice I will give you, I think you are joking and I honest to god don't believe you have it in you to start a business online - you lack the commitment and brainpower ;)

Again ... I have no clue what it involves, and even though I appreciate the effort for laying it out like this for me , it is like a foreign language

My area of expertise does not involve this. So I am prepared to pay someone ho knows what they are doing, to build my website (lay it out for me)

Whether you believe or not I have “brainpower“ or commitment is irrelevant to me. I will get it done. Is like shopping for a car. I just want tips on how to find the car dealer that can understand my needs and get me what I need.

Simple as that. I understood what you pointed out. But I have no clue about that.

That post by Stark that you've quoted is spot on and very well put. Building a great website is only one part of the whole. Once it's built, it's a whole different ball game to generate traffic, do SEO and improve your page ranking and popularity, all of which takes TONS of time and effort.

Majority of the people think that once they put out a great website, people will automatically come flocking to it, but it's a constant struggle to get visitors and improve your rep, esp. if you're starting from scratch and don't have an established customer base offline, that you can use to get some initial momentum when you launch the site. And you're competing with literally hundreds of thousands of websites if not more.

You are talking about shopping for a car, but it's not so simple, because you don't need other people to drive your car, but you need them to make your website popular. You could, of course, have a site with no traffic and nothing but your own blog, but that's another thing altogether. Stark knows his shit, so I'd PM him more if I were you. Good luck.

I started my page with one user - myself - lol I remember that I had to fake conversation in the comments to fake that it had traffic :D I had arguments with myself ;D
And it never stops - one day I wanted 1000 members - the next I see its possible to become a large page and you shoot for that - one thing I still haven't figure out is how to make money of an entertainment page - its so much harder than most people believe, contrary to many peoples believe advertisers still don't come flogging to your page when you have a lot of members and traffic you still need to fight for every cent and penny.
You really need to like what you are doing there is no other way.

sev... why do you keep talking about a blog? Nobody talks about blogging here - I think you don't know what a blog is.
We are talking about webpage, it doesn't matter what page you have, entertaiment, video, picture, blog, forum etc etc.
They all need work.
Get that blog idea out of your head - nobody is talking about blogs

It doesn't matter what your site is. My point is that getting your site built is just the first step - in fact, one of the smaller ones.

If you do most of your work offline and just want to use your site as a back up / reference point for whatever service you provide for your clients, then yes, you need only to concern yourself with how it looks. But if you want to use your site to generate business online and get you more clients, then that's a whole different scenario altogether.

When we consult with clients interested in purchasing a website, we inform them of the amount work it takes to make a site a success. Most people still believe that after the site launches that's the end of their commitment, save for answering the thousands of customer requests and counting their money...lol.

If you want some advice on making money from your site check these forums ---> http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=45

There are many ways to make money from your site apart from peddling your site to advertisers.
