Nice....and yes that "Akeem" gimmick was atrocious. Vince should have left him as One Man Gang and had him fued with others.

I agree.  OMG would have been a great fit, but during that time especially vince always had to come up with some awful gimmick for anybody who came to the territory....  :-\

Lol...I dunno. I liked him better as the One Man Gang when he first came in and was beating the daylights outta everyone. The Akkem deal with the African clothes seemed a tad to weird for me.

The vignettes in which they introduced the Akeem character were even stupider.

The only good thing I'll say is that it sounds like Gang & Slick were genuinely good people outside the ring, and I don't believe the whole "Akeem" angle was their idea.

Lol...you mean when they went to "deepest darkest Africa"?

Guaranteed it was thought up by creative and okayed / pushed by Vince as he knew how popular the One Man Gang character was in Mid South and World Class.

Nothing beat the time when One Man Gang back in 1987 did his finisher to like 5 or 6 different jobbers. Nothing but bodies all over the ring  ;D

The WWE back then in 1987 had the same idea but went awall somewhere. They made him squash jobber after jobber after jobber. Then he had a run with Hogan in a series of house matches and lost. After that he started a feud with Randy Savage for the world title after WM4 and that was it. The African Dream Akeem was born. Never liked it and that that gimmick hurt Gray as a wrestler. He was no longer that big mean 450lb biker gang member that struck fear in his opponents.
