Are there any wrestlers from 70's and 80's currently living the good life?

Lets look at some of the biggest draws:

Ric Flair - divorced 4x or so....still wrestling at 60. I call BS that it is in his blood and he wants to wrestle

Animal from LOD - HS strength coach or something

Jake Roberts - enough said

Roddy Piper- can anyone comment?

Tony Atlas - maybe not biggest draws but I have seen A&E stories where he is living in a 300 sf apartment

etc etc......anyone successful in their twilight yrs?

I guess “the good life” is wide opened to interpretation.
I don’t know of too many guys who retire as millionaires, but many live comfortably, stress/worry-free, and enjoy 2nd careers that they aren’t necessarily “forced” to hold down.

Piper has an attractive and sizeable house on some acreage in/near Aloha, Oregon.
After retiring in '87, he came back after making a couple of movies because it drove him nuts being home all the time; although, he would frequently take lengthy sabatticals to persue more acting gigs and spend time with his family.
It doesn't sound like he's hurting and still likes to dabble a bit here & there.

Rene Goulet and Larry Zbyszko are two excellent examples of the motto: “It’s not only how much you make, but how much you save.”
Larry told some hilarious stories about how frugal/cheap Goulet was on the road.
While he never pulled main event money, Goulet and his wife are set and simply play golf everyday at an exclusive country club by their Florida home.

Bruno appears to be doing okay.

Virgil is a substitute school teacher and dick.

Hawk and Animal pocketed an ass-load of $$ from their partnership in Zubaz.
Each had 25% ownership worth $14 million.

I believe you're right.
I can't remember the details, but his name popped up in a semi-recent article that mentioned maybe some kind of business he owns or something.

I have a feeling that Vince kind of short-changes the female roster.
This is mostly my opinion and is based on a great deal of conjecture, but I remember reading some supposed details of Trish's contract (when she was their top diva) and being surprised how low her salary was.

Trish was HUGE and had to have been a top merchandise seller for them with all of those calendars, posters, dvd's, etc.
Not only that, but she projected a good, clean, wholesome image outside the ring.

I don't know how it is now, but if that's how the old man treated his top lady star...

Piper is Loaded and owns a huge ranch in Portland

Flair has more money then most wrestlers put together. He was earning close to a million dollars per year in the eighties. He only contiues to be involved in the business because like many his age he can't seem to let go of the spotlight. His divorces mean nothing as he is still loaded. His net worth is 25 mil.

Jake is a right off. He made his bed now let him lay in it.

Don't know about Tony Atlas...

Many who earned big bucks are very well off just like anyother sport / actor so to speak.

I don’t feel bad for Jake, and Atlas isn’t exactly the sharpest “fork” in the drawer, so don’t go by him.

And, Playboy is very correct:
There are some who made decent money and live a great life now, while some made a fortune and now have nothing.
There are also cases in which the opposite of the above is true.

And, just like in Hollywood - you hear about actors like Nicholas Cage making $20 million (or whatever) per film, and are “broke.”
A few years back, I’d read that Cage was living in a replica of a Scottish castle, and was strongly considering purchasing a REAL Scottish castle and having it transported to North America.
Then, the stupid prick can’t understand where all of his money went!!

That right there hit the nail on the head. Imagine what the monthly costs are to run a "castle" that size? I doubt Cage is "Broke" but who knows. For them, being broke means they only have 5 million instead of 80 million.

Yes.
I suspect that, in many cases, that terminology is relative...

Unless you're Wesley Snipes.

Speaking of Oprah....off topic, but I saw her interviewing JK Rowling one day and Rowling said something about "never feeling safe with all the cash she has" and asked Oprah if she felt the same.....Oprah got this funny look and was like "uh, no...."  It was so refreshingly honest...haha

Luna spent her last days as a tow truck driver in Florida.
She also lived with her mother after a fire destroyed her (Luna's) home.

She was buried on her Godfather's Ellerbe, NC ranch.
Her Godfather was Andre the Giant.

Tony Atlas and Hacksaw are working two towns over from me in February. Pretty small venue. I often wonder how much they make for these shows. Although Hacksaw and Beefcake did a show last year and the place was hopping. They opened the balcony seating and it was full, were as at normal show with the local guys doesn't sell out the floor seating.

Yes, I read on a Classic Wrestling board recently that Ted Arcidi is very well off. Owns half of Manchester NH, acted in "The Town" and "The Fighter" recently, owns a gym, a fitness store, a huge Mill building. Very successful guy.

A decent name can earn a good living off the independants. My buddy did an independant show when he was trying to make the big time and he said Jake Roberts was on the card and got 5 grand per appearance.

I once asked one of our promoters for a ballpark figure of what some of the "celebrity" wrestlers make.
He told me he doesn't discuss any workers' payouts with his other talent.
But, I know there were local guys making $40 per night - even the ones taking chairshots to the head with color.

LOL!!
Yeah, but even local-level indy pay is more lucrative than some guys "earn" in premier bodybuilding events.
Some undercard guys make as much as $40 more in a night. Wink
