Have you ever even tried a 12" box squat? Do you know the purpose of a box squat?
He hasn't a clue, but I'd be willing to bet before he answers your question, he'll google his answer first.
What's the bodybuilding utility of box squats though? Why do you do them coach? I've done a shitload of box squats and my legs are sticks. Not much use for building quads IMO, except in a few cases.
Box squats are especially useful for powerlifters squatting in suits, often using a very wide stance. And very few of them have much quad development. Some of the best box squatters you can hardly tell train their legs. It's mostly a posterior chain movement.
Remember what Louie Simmons had Francois do to grow his legs? (for those that don't know Simmons is probably the biggest reason box squats are so popular)
He wanted his legs bigger, which I thought was impossible, and we worked doing incline squats (similar to a hack squat), and he would never lock his legs. We got them bigger!
Perhaps tbombz isn't so far off after all.
