US Military Overseas
« on: April 07, 2011, 11:30:59 AM »
Mods: Feel free to move this post to its appropriate location...

I just had a couple of family members return from combat duty and on the way home from the airport they were still in their combat  gear (minus weapons of mass destruction) so we stopped at one of the shopping centers to get some civilian clothes so that they could go out to some of the LV hot spots.

I was pretty amazed by the vast number of civilian shoppers who made it a point to come up and thank my guys for their overseas service. Both of them have been there more than once and are looking forward to a return 'visit", and both of them were very 'touched' by the people that stopped them to say a simple "Thanks!" or to spend a few minutes talking about their own sons and daughters who were still over there.

That 45 minute shopping experience was very moving and on the way out of the store while returning to the car we passed a good number of people who acknowledged us by some sort of sign I was unfamiliar with.

So when we got back to the house they both showed me a website video which explained it.

I'm forwarding it to you GetBiggers who may be interested in a new way of showing a small token of appreciation.

Check it out ......        http://www.gratitudecampaign.org/shortmovie.php

I was at the LA Kings game last night and they honored a service man who was in the audience in his full uniform.  Everyone stood up for a good 5 minutes and cheered and clapped, people were all around his seat patting him on the back, shaking his hand, the guy broke down in tears.  Pretty amazing to see so much gratitude and it was quite heart warming to see fellow Americans give tribute to the sacrifices these men make.

Countries come and go and life still goes on, why kill yourself for something that is bound to change anyway?

He who joyfully marches to music rank and file, has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would surely suffice. This disgrace to civilization should be done away with at once. Heroism at command, how violently I hate all this, how despicable and ignoble war is; I would rather be torn to shreds than be a part of so base an action. It is my conviction that killing under the cloak of war is nothing but an act of murder. Nothing will end war unless the people themselves refuse to go to war.

Foolishness just hit a new low with this post. Should I pity you? Do you really know the meaning of freedom? Obviously you don't.

 Che is right.

US military guys are just like plumbers, construction workers, McDonald's Managers or whatever.

Just guys getting a paycheck and doing a job. Nothing more.

They aren't doing anything noble right now. In fact they are doing a lot of fucked up shit!
