when buying cars, women look for practicality, reliability---in short a appliance, men look for style, engine, etc.
When buying purses, women look for style, usability, color...when men look for a wallet, they only look for "purpose"...notice the similarities in the two examples...

Women, want purses (a metaphor for men) who are pleasing to the eye, to show to their girlfriends, to enjoy themselves---but they want practicality as well...the stlye, color, and brand name catches the eye (foot in the door), the longevity of the "purse" and what it provides is the long term goal...
