do you think the cubs are thinking twice about screwing over  ryne sandburg for the manager's job. the cubs are at a pathetic 37-56. the minor league team sanburg took over never broke 500 in their existance yet he has them atop triple a with a 54-38 record even though his lineup is often descimated due to phillies injuries pitching esp. by the way last year sandburg was 82-62  for the cubs triple a affilate.

He does, but the Yanks still  have the best run differential in baseball.  The numbers say that their pitching staff is top notch, but going into the playoffs with Colon and Garcia doesn't give much confidence.

but in bonds case most of his gains came after 35 years of age a couple of shoe sizes and a couple of hat sizes which just doesn't happen and his stats went thru the roof.

It's crazy.  The stats show that Colon and Garcia are not having flukey years - they're legitimately good pitchers.   Nova's been so much better than expected, and Hughes MIGHT be picking it up.

Yet, it still feels like we have a weak staff.  Must just be perception, because the numbers say we have a very good one.

Maybe it's the absence of a true shut down #2 name.  Colon's been that, but I just keep waiting for the wheels to fall off.

It's nice to see thew Yanks come up with a couple of home growns with potential.

Yup - Hughes/Robertson/Cano/Gardner/Nova/Nunez/Noesi in addition to Jeter/Rivera/Posada

That's 40% of the 25 man alone from the farm, and they're players of importance.  The number increases further if you add in some of the lesser known middle relievers.

Nunez - an adventure every ground ball hit.

Noesi - has his moments, but nothing to brag about yet.

Posada - had a great run but is a non factor.

Hughes - the jury is out. Decent setup guy a few years ago. Nice first half last year but mediocre since.

I'm not saying they're all stars, but they're important pieces.  Nunez was able to fill in the gap when ARod went down and Chavez is unavailable.    Hughes, despite not living up to expectations, is still only 25, and is in the starting rotation.  Noesi needs a chance to pitch but is forgotten.

What are your thoughts on the new crop? Betances, Banuelos, Montero and even Brackman. Did you spit out your coffee when they drafted that kid in the 1st during the player draft like i did?
