Decent.
For the price I'm not going to complain.
Actually, everything I've gotten from there has been good.
Their fresh vegs like colored peppers, carrots, broccoli, mushrooms, bagged spinach and greens are always good.
The chic breasts are $2.49/lb
Fresh blueberries when in are always great and so are the frozen ones.
String cheese is ok.
Big tub of oatmeal is cheap.
Eggs are cheap.
They always get in "special buys" for a limited time at good prices and good quality.

I don't know why they have a negative rep.  ??? Maybe cuz they originally opened stores in the hood  ???  I absolutely HATE their checkouts.

First timers - $cash only or debit - bring your own bags - .25 for cart (returned when returned)

Thanks for the input.

I didn’t realize they had any bad rap.
We have several throughout our region, ranging from lower-middle to upper-middle class areas.
EVERYONE raves about them.

I’ve only recently started shopping there.
Yeah, their lines suck, but the cashier was more than helpful on my first visit, at which time I didn’t know about the BYO bag rule.

We also have GFS (Gordon Food Service), which is very similar to Aldi’s.
GFS carries more name-brand items at discount prices, and unlike SAM’S or Costco, you don’t have to buy a minimum six-month supply of everything.

There is some sort of relationship to Trader Joes.  ???  Something like the owners are cousins or something.  Anyway - German company and concepts.  They have a lot of German stuff like bakery and chocolate.

They must have good prices on cereal and junk food too cuz I see carts loaded up with that stuff.

I've had good luck with plants too.  I bought a few poinsettias at Christmas for dirt cheap and they are still just as red and hearty today.
I kinda wish they would die cuz they're not very summer-y, but I can't bring myself to kill anything  :-\

Oh, and they have these fresh packaged bacon wrapped beef filets for $1.79.  Now they're only 5 ounces and I've seen leaner, but for $5.73/lb it's a good price for protein for you guys on a budget.

Ours has an incredible inventory of snacks, including a wide variety of potato chips and candies - brand names, too.

I like their GFS brand sirloin burgers and egg beaters.
I've also tried some of their frozen appetizers, which are quite tasty.

Yes, they are skinless.  The downside to that is they're hard to grill cuz they want to fall apart.

Aldi's bad rep came from the fact that they are hard discounters and we aren't used to that.  We are used to having people double bag stuff and have supper fast checkouts.  Not like that there.  The thing with them is that I can never do all my shopping there.  Never ebough selection, but awesome for the basics.

You have to take your own bags, or use boxes.  25 cent deposit on taking a grocery cart so you'll return it to the corral and a few other basic things like that.  It's way worth it IMO.

They had Jelly Beans for Easter that were like top quality.  As good or better (maybe the same with a different label) than Jelly Belly.  They were about half as expensive.

Okay, I didn't know that type of setup had a name.
That's how our GFS is, too.

As far as the off-label stuff, I've wondered about that, as well.
I wouldn't doubt that there are some brand-name companies who sell their product to other places that put their "own" labels on it.
I've seen this phenomenon plenty of times with tools.

Some of their 'off brand' stuff is just as good as or better than the name brand stuff.

My wife shops at Aldi all the time. She always gets good buys with and without coupons/home. The only thing that tasted completely terrible was the prepackaged steaks. They tasted like they had been preserved in some type of brine.
