Thank you Vinny, I would have been lost without that. I would have gone after the ducks with the .308 & tried my luck with Deer/ Elk using the 12 gauge  ::)

You do know I am a member of the MRA, right?? http://www.mra.org.in/

I wasn't sure what info you wanted but I seriously don't put much emphasis or care on any particular rifle other than its general use.  Accuracy isn't a real factor because you have to center them anyway and I don't have a particular brand favorite.

I've shot a lot of things from M-60's in the Army and etc and I've pretty always considered a gun as just a gun.  You center it, shoot it, you reload it, and you clean and take care of it and that's it.

Oh dear. Vinny, Vinny, Vinny...........
A gun is a gun?? Just zero it & clean it. I can see you didn't get much down range time in the military, basic training & then a desk job was it??
With this attitude there is no way you have spent a lot of time with firearms, no way.

The quality of the barrel alone can make a huge difference to the accuracy %'age of a weapon (zeroed or not), compared to a bog standard, off the shelf AR15.
Then we can talk durability in different conditions, I will give you a clue = the AR50-arctic-warfare .308, can be used in sub zero arctic conditions, to plus 50 desert conditions.
Go find me a $300 bit of crap that fires the same round that could stand up to this.
We could also get into to effective range, but you are not a gun enthusiast so why bother..............

Going over to Laurel Nest Yurts next week to check out what they have.  Because of building code issues I'm having, I'm considering this as a second option

This is interesting Vince options from living a different lifestyle ie away from government regulations and bullshit is a enterprising subject. So how would property taxes and such work in this environment?

Very minimal....especially when you're not paying any rent, mortgage, electric, water, etc.

Cool topic. Have you video taped any of the work? Would be cool to look back on when it's all set the way you envision it.

Good luck.

What type of freedom do you speak of Vincenzo?

Won't you still have to pay Federal Income Tax?

The only issue with the building code was that it wasn't big enough and that I needed to add about 300 more square feet of living space.  There was nothing wrong with the overall design itself.  It has standard insulation, plumbing, electrical wiring, etc....it was simply too small.

Found some property for really cheap, verizon signal picks up nicely.  Area would need to be cleared and a water well drilled but it will be well worth for the price.  2 more years and I'll have freedom from the government and the utility companies.... ;D

did you get a mule with it as well?

I've yet to hear a homesteading story that didn't involve a battle with outside interference.

Good thread.  I'm looking forward to the updates.

Yea, I didn't realize how difficult that could be.  Everything seems to be working against you from electric to water to septic etc.  But I'll eventually come up with a solutions for all

Alright, finally got a plan approved.  Its a cabana style design that is super-cheap and it will keep the cost down as it is quite easy to build. Here's what it will somewhat look like

In addition, I've also decided on how to heat the house and it will be with a Kimberly Stove.  It is so efficient that I can heat the home for 10 hours on ONE 5lb extruded pressed log.  I may even end up selling them

Sounds like the kind of guy who claims squatter's rights in a 20' shipping container and keeps hoping longshoremen will turn up to evict him so he can help them "offload."

This is an interesting product.  You can use it to cook, which would only make sense to do if you're going to fire it up anyway.  The idea is to satisfy multiple needs per single use of energy.

These stoves have an EGR system of sorts, similar to a vehicle engine.  It reuses exhaust from the fire to reincinerate at super high temperatures, which obviously makes it more efficient versus itself without, but it also consumes pollutants that you'd otherwise breathe over the years.

You can burn charcoal and other forms of fuel in it, too.

As for the fire logs, it would be interesting to know how long they can be stored.  Getting a large quantity, cheap per piece, would be a goal if they could be stored.

Seems as though they should repel moisture, so...

Weird, but Mighty-Shed has gone offline.  I wonder what happened.

I'm still in the planning stage which will take a very long time.  There's a lot of things that I'll have to buy and consider prior to doing so because once I start building the house, then there's no going back.  While it will not cost much to do so, I want to make sure I get everything right.

Ultimately, my purpose is to retire by the age of 40 comfortably being able to pay my expenses solely off my business.  The only way I found that I can do that is to set up a home that I don't have to pay electricity, water, gas, mortgage, etc.  By doing so, I can truly retire and not have to worry about bills
