Half a dozen people e-mailed us this clip because they think it tells us something significant. I don’t, but in the interest of completeness, here you go. In fact, I think this vindicates Cain’s wisdom in declining to take a polygraph about the harassment charges (so far). However generally accurate a lie detector might be, no one believes they’re 100 percent accurate. If you sit down and stake your reputation on a good result, your candidacy’s at the mercy of the machine. Any Cain fans out there seriously want him to roll the dice on a polygraph in hopes of killing this story dead?
His best chance of killing this story, actually, are the small holes being punched in Bialek’s and Kraushaar’s credibility. The latest from CNN:
Herman Cain accuser Karen Kraushaar is “not considering a press conference” if only she and the other named accuser, Sharon Bialek, are willing to participate, according to a source close to Kraushaar.
“She still would like to have a press conference with all four women” who have accused Cain of sexual harassment, the source said, but it has not yet come together…
Bennett said Wednesday that it was likely that Kraushaar would do a newser if only Bialek committed, but that is now not the case, according to the source.
If it’s just her and Bialek up there, the Q&A will be all about Kraushaar’s other job complaint and Bialek’s financial history. If it’s four of them up there, the group’s total credibility is bolstered and the Q&A will focus on fleshing out the other women’s accusations against Cain. Like Kraushaar said the other day: Safety in numbers.
Cain’s raised more than $9 million since October 1, according to his campaign; if he keeps up that pace, he’ll have plenty of ammo to make a real run at Iowa. Or will he? Exit quotation from the AP:
Private polling shared with The Associated Press shows Cain’s support in Iowa has declined since last month. Internal polls of likely Republican caucus-goers showed Cain’s support consistent with The Des Moines Register’s poll in late October, which showed him narrowly leading in the state with 23 percent. The private polls showed Cain still in double digits in Iowa, but markedly lower.
