Any of the Brits on here watch the excellent documentary on BBC 2 the other night called You`ve been Trumped,all about Donald Trump and how he has bullied a few people to sell their houses so he can build a golf course.Its obvious from the film he has the government and the police in his pocket and there are things you see in this film that are truly shocking.You only "own" your own house until someone with enough money pays people in power to take it off you. |

The problem is that they get to decide what fair market value is, and its usually 50% less than what people could sell it for. |

The government can literally take your property if they want, and they give you "fair market value". The problem is that they get to decide what fair market value is, and its usually 50% less than what people could sell it for.

But I know this has happened several times, they installed a Navy golf course by my grandparents house, and forced quite a few people off the land. They gave them something like 75,000 for property worth almost 250,000. |

Eventually, the woman sold her home for millions.
And you folks talk about eminent domain as if there is only one appraisal done.
Not true in the least. The municipality gets an appraisal, the homeowner gets an appraisal (using comparable sales, etc.) and then the case goes to a Condemnation Commission. The decision is appealable.

this sounds just un-fucking-believable. not trumps tactics, but that he's being allowed to get away with in britain. surely they're taking this to the fucking courts i can't watch this now as my blood will fucking boil.. just reading your post has pissed me off  i just can't understand compulsory purchase orders for a golf course. honestly, i just can't get my head around it ! i can understand for government projects and national security... a golf course!!! where the fuck is alex salmond in all this |
