Not true. They missed the playoffs that year. 11-5 wasn't good enough. If Brady was healthy, that 11-5 would probably have been 13-3 and they make the playoffs. Huge difference.

You forget that SF restocked their defense with All-Stars the year Young won it.  A lot of those guys weren't on the team the following year and they haven't won it since.

If Montana had the same protection from the NFL that QBs have and if Rice had the same cushion that WR have today they would have set records untouchable forever.

You guys act like receivers never got open 20 years ago. Rice still has records that stand to this day, and the west coast offense tore up the league. Every team in the league runs a variation of it during the course of a game in the NFL now. the Run-and-shoot is another one.

To me it's just silly, and it applies to all sports. This belief that the guys from 20 years ago, the entire group, is somehow head and shoulders above the guys who play now. People are People and they haven't changed all that much, if anything they have gotten better due to advances in training, nutrition and PEDS. Kids in HS now train like Walter Payton did and have a vision of where they want to be in 5 years....they are all jocks who went to college and made it to the pros.


John Elway wasn't superman ..he was a dude. Colin Kaepernick is bigger. stronger, has a better arm and is faster than Elway ever was.he can outrun safeties and put the ball 80 yards with a perfect spiral.  How many Superbowls does he win playing against players 20 years ago ?

I only bring up that season because we have so many people sitting around talking about how awesome Montana's teams always were... and they were not ALL awesome.

At the end of the day, winning the big one ONCE is WAY better than making it to the big game 10 times and losing it each time.
