they are the ones arguing semantics over the word "increase"

they are trying to portray the expiration of a discount as a tax increase

how about this

if you salary is temporarily reduced and then reinstated did you get a raise

I'm sure certain people on this board will think so
Effectively, yes. If you're pay is docked you're making less than you were, and then when it goes back up, you're effectively making more.
Stop with your bullshit semantics arguments and look at the end result - people are paying more now than they were a couple days ago, no matter how you cut it.

damn, I wish I had employees who were that stupid

I may try that this year

I'll explain to everyone that they are going to get a raise in June but first I'm going to cut their pay by 25% from Feb thru May and then I'm going to reinstate their original salary in June and that will be their raise

do you honestly think anyone would consider that to be a raise ?

If the answer is yes then I've really underestimated the intelligence level on this board

exactly

the semantic argument

you all know full well that Obama did not raise your taxes even though your payroll tax rate did increase due to the expiration of a discount

but you're still going to piss and moan about the word increase and pretend he lied to you

You're now going off into something completely inconsequential in a vain attempt to validate your bullshit argument.

If your employees get demoted and their pay drops... their salaries decrease. If they later are promoted back, their salary increases. That is and EFFECTIVE raise, is it not? They were making less, they are now making more. You created a bullshit scenario to try and make some sense of your argument, but it's all smoke and mirrors.. and at the end, it's still bullshit.

People are paying more money now than they were. Guess what, it's an increase in taxes on the middle class.

Hurrr fuckin' durrrr bro.

That's not a semantic... It's a fucking fact.

I'm not saying he lied... You're saying he didn't... I'm saying he is certainly guilty by omission.

I'm starting to think you're no longer delusional and have moved on to outright stupidity.

Did you figure out what the word "increase" meant vs. "raise"?

I never said anything about a demotion

times are tough and I need to save money so I need to cut their salaries (basically the same argument as saying times are tough so I'm going to give you a temporary tax decrease)

when times are better I'll reinstate your original salary and I'll say I gave you a raise

You know damn well you aren't a business owner... If you were, you certainly wouldn't be ok with the fact your payroll just went up 2% over last year.

You know full well that your tax rate didn't increase

from your perspective the day Obama signed a one year tax reduction he was giving you a de facto tax increase the day it expired

That's an idiotic way to look at it but I understand that's how you and other choose to look at it

Which has zero to do with anything, again. If their pay goes down for whatever reason, its a decrease. If it goes up, it's an increase. There is no fucking way you actually can believe the shit you're spewing.

So the amount of money I'm paying in taxes did not go up since last year?

Really?

now you've deduced I'm jobless ?

are you kidding

this entire thread is a bunch of babies crying because there tax discount went away (after being extended twice) and complaining about a tax increase (an increase baked into the original legislation by the fact that it was TEMPORARY)

I swear this is possibly one of the dumbest threads I've ever seen

I can't imagine anyone trying to make this argument in person or in real life

Something this retarded could only happen on a message board

The payroll tax went from 4.2% to 6.2%.

That is an increase of 2%.

CURL: Obama supporters shocked, angry at new tax increases
The Washington Times online ^ | Sunday, January 6, 2013 | Joseph Curl
Posted on January 6, 2013, 7:23:49 PM EST by Reagan is King

Sometimes, watching a Democrat learn something is wonderful, like seeing the family dog finally sit and stay at your command.

With President Obama back in office and his life-saving “fiscal cliff” bill jammed through Congress, the new year has brought a surprising turn of events for his sycophantic supporters.

“What happened that my Social Security withholding’s in my paycheck just went up?” a poster wrote on the liberal site DemocraticUnderground.co m. “My paycheck just went down by an amount that I don’t feel comfortable with. I guarantee this decrease is gonna’ hurt me more than the increase in income taxes will hurt those making over 400 grand. What happened?”

Shocker. Democrats who supported the president’s re-election just had NO idea that his steadfast pledge to raise taxes meant that he was really going to raise taxes. They thought he planned to just hit those filthy “1 percenters,” you know, the ones who earned fortunes through their inventiveness and hard work. They thought the free ride would continue forever.

And, that's not just from the payroll or withholding tax. Let's not forget that pesky ObamaCare.
