I like the new playoff system because it should make teams want to really go all out and win their division...Would suck losing in a one game playoff...Also winning your division will let you set up your pitching starters for the playoffs. Having to win a one game playoff will make teams have to re-think throwing out their ace...Many different scenario's now come into play...

Teams went all out to win their divisions to an even greater extent when only the division winners advanced.

I was hoping the Dodgers would tank this year for making one of the dumbest trades I'd ever seen - bailing the Red Sox out of two shitty contracts AND giving up prospects to boot.

They're a juggernaut now.

I think they are averaging something like 1 loss per week for the past 7 weeks. Pretty incredible.

they had a 42 wins and 8 losses last 50 games before the phillies snapped their 10 game winning streak. best since the 1942 reds went 42-8 in a 50 game span.  i remember a tigers team in the mid 80's started off 35 wins and 5 losses played 500  ball rest of season and cruised to playoffs.

True...But in most cases only until the trade deadline...

If a team is 8 to 10 games back at the trade deadline in August, without the second wild card, teams would sell off...Now there's a better chance that these teams make some moves to try to win that wildcard instead of selling off...Also if a team gets a double digit lead in their division by the All-star break and there's no 2nd wild card, every team in that division would most likely start to think sell off mode which basically is saying "we're throwing in the towel"...Now there's a better chance of that not happening imop...Those one game make it or break it playoff games are bound to be the most exciting games in baseball...I do think a 2 out of 3 series makes more sense but no doubt 1 game all or nothing will be some great baseball...

Go Pirates and Tampa.

Of course, it could be Cleveland vs. Pittsburgh which could have the lowest ratings ever.
