Paypal are nothing but a bunch of crooks

i've had paypal for years, but i rarely use it as most transactions online are credit card based. Now and then there are some places that I've used paypal.

Just a number of days ago I sent money for some supplements and the guy sent back a refund because it wasn't exact amount and not sent as gift. Anyways I sent the correct money back to him so he could ship asap. Long story short I didn't realize the 'refund' would take 8 business days. They HOLD your money... yet they instantly took the money from my bank chequing account. Call the aholes and they give me bs explanations. I do some googling and it turns out these vultures leech off of people's money with interest when they hold it.

Low life scum. I hope they crash and burn.

I am cancelling my paypal account as soon as I get my money back. Scum. Mad pissed.

What are some alternatives. This dude told me of a 'wire transfer' (only heard that in movies lmao), and that the cost is 12 bux for doing that (seems like an even bigger rip off).

Here in canada I love the e-transfers, but its local only. Used to be FREE.. now since everyone was using it they introduced 1.50$ fees... still better than the bs fees of other methods like western union but maaan these ppl are all hungry to leech off of ppl...

It sucks, but you're just going to have to eat the cost. I have a intuit account to take credit cards from some clients, and I signed up for a year because they said it was a flat rate of 1.97% if I did that. Well, the salesman didnt tell me if it was a rewards type, or corporate card, I got hit hit 3.9%. Well, the bill was a $44,000 invoice so that stung a bit. I called and bitched, but to no avail. It sucks that these big companies like that can just make you suck their dick and there's nothing you can do about it. 

Isn't there an Islamic law about the amounts of interest that can be charged on loans?

Too bad paypal are losers and are still holding my money for more days to come and I sent the money thinking it was directly refunded to my account as it was an 'instant transfer -- confirmed verified bank account'. Funny how they instantly took but hesitate to give back. I read up on other's complaints and it seems they profit while holding people's money by fundling the money for days on days. Bunch of pricks.

It's the same with payroll companies. For instance, I have to have my payroll approved by Wednesday at 8am so they can take the money directly out of my account, but they don't pay my employees until Friday. They hold your money a few days, every week, times however many other companies they do payroll for and it starts to add up.

A wire transfer is not recommended as you have no recourse if you don't recieve the goods

So they should provide services for free?

You had the convenience of instantly transferring money to someone but you managed to fuck it up by not sending as a gift (doing so to bypass paypal commissions).

So - then you sent the money as a gift, effectively leeching off Paypal and working around their commission system.

And you whine about not getting your refund straight away?     PMSL....

Paypal provide a good service and it's not at all expensive and the thresholds for getting to use Paypal are a lot lower than most merchant accounts...

At 3% of sales, it's a very good service for a new startup and it's a well trusted name. You get payment protection too.



Other than the fact they aren't the charity you want them to be, they are fine.

Well if these crooks weren't more crooks. They did not INFORM ME or call me even though it said they would, so it was SITTING in the 'paypal account'. So lo and behold I say transfer now to my account and now it says AGAIN have to wait ... and until the 8th. So amazing how they can INSTANTLY take my money but hold it for 2 and a half weeks

My Paypal account is CC-based. Only had one problem over the years, and I went through my CC to get it sorted, not Paypal. Solved no problem.

Paypal gifts carry no fees as long as the 2 parties are in the same country.

So it's people trying to game Paypals fee structure that do this - you know, wanting to use their services for free.

It's like anything - you have to know how it works & how to deal with them. Lots of people have issues with regular merchant accounts with Visa etc holding money. For me this isn't an issue because I sell software. When anything goes through a credit card, the card company takes on some liability so your warranty as well as consumer protection laws dictate how long they will hold onto your money before it is safe for them to release it to you.

Lot's of people get caught out by this but they should do their research first. These companies won't take on your risk and will keep the money until any chance of having to pay it back is gone.

It is quite normal for credit card companies to hold onto your money for 6 months.

They ease off as they do more business with you and build up a picture of what your warranty returns will be.

These organisations are not banks. They just facilitate card payments without which you'd be screwed nowadays.

If some start up starts selling car radios with a 3 month warranty, the card company will be liable if a warranty claim is necessary but the car radio company has already one bump. They aren't charities, so they withhold cash.

Fortunately, they have some smart geeks in the backroom trying to figure out what the likely hit is on warranties.

I only use American Express with PayPal, since Amex doesn't give a fuck about their rules.  A coder tried to sell my 2nd sis, IT specialist, broken code for her side hustle consulting company, and AMEX got the money back 90 days later.  I think PayPal says, 30 days and case is closed.  Anyway, AMEX > PayPay.
