Isn't the threat of genetic modification said to be within the realm of reproduction concerns, rather than necessarily the safe edibility of the product?  Definitely not an expert on this, would like to know more.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought genetic modifications are risking the future availability of essential crops.

As entertaining as it sounds, this story is a fake...

If it was real, there couldn't have been such a detailed word-for-word account to be reliably printed.  That should clue in most people.

Not to mention that Bloomberg isn't dumb enough to use such language in a public place, at least not again...

He has had many mishaps during his time as mayor, whereby he has made derogatory remarks about African Americans, Irish people and even orthodox Jews.

Safe to say, he learned from his comments back then...

I don't think he is a bad mayor. What I do think is that he can be a little aggressive at times (see recent attempt at banning 16oz drinks) and that won't win you any popularity contests.

I also think he is simply trying to leave his legacy by making changes that will affect the betterment of our children's future (implementation of vegetarian menus in public schools, banning large drinks (>16oz) containing heavy sugar, increasing police presence in once desolate and violent portions of our city). Whether or not there are better ways of doing that is debatable.

I voted for him, but do think his recent stance of banning large drinks is taking it a little too far.

Study showing that labeling GMOs causes people to bid less for the labeled food than equivalent non-labeled foods (even though they're proven safe):

http://ageconsearch.umn.edu/bitstream/31071/1/28030481.pdf

This proves that labeling is harmful, especially to an industry where the profit margins are razor thin. (That's not even counting the arguments that GMO foods are simply better--they assume equivalence.)

Statement from AAAS supporting GMOs as being safe:

http://www.aaas.org/news/releases/2012/media/AAAS_GM_statement.pdf

Speaks for itself.

Sounds like food companies need to do a publicity campaign then to convince consumers GMO is safe...not appeal to the government.  In the meantime, put it on the merchandise.  Not having it labeled doesnt allow me the option of 'opting out' with my purchasing dollar.

Then the market can decide what they want to eat and those company's profits will decide if GMO food is competititve.

Restricting information from others, especially under the guise of protecting or educating them, is the first step towards Communism, comrade.

Sure, and how do you feel when he or similar create legislation banning homosexuals from adoption...you know 'to leave a legacy affecting the betterment of our children's future".  It can happen.  Central planning has always been a slippery slope towards fascism...don't let your agreement with one form of it's 'direct and manage' approach blind you.  The moment you join the reductions of someone else's freedom is the moment you lose yours.

P.I.P., this is definitely a reason to argue for the labels.

lol...I hear you, VoD.  Another way of restricting information is under the guise that it's just too profitable to do otherwise.  It's been doing a fine job of throwing America into Fascism.

Nobody is restricting anything, however, there are bills and have been bills wanting to require listing which is totally unfair and unwarranted.  Might as well have a Ghost Clause for everyone selling a house-they have to state if the House is haunted or not as required by the government.

Anti-GMO people are morons of the highest order and are akin to Anti-Vaccinators, Ghost Hunters, Bible Thumpers, Tooth-Fairy believers, Flat-Earthers....You get the picture, belief without evidence.

So go ahead, keep on believing myths and superstitions, the more you do that writ large, the higher the price of goods will go up as GMO`s bring down costs greatly.  Go ahead, pay 8 dollars for your disease ridden, pesticide laden, wilting brown lettuce.  Food companies would LOVE to charge you more and if you give them the excuse, they will surely do it.

I`m angry that there are no labels stating 100 percent Motor Oil Free on my eggs.  >:(  Can we get that label too?

People may be morons...but welcome to America...people have the freedom to be morons...or bible thumpers...or marxists :).  Maybe you just don't like freedom?  If I want to pay 8 dollas for wilting brown lettuce or GMO lettuce then that's my right...as an American.  Maybe you'd be better off living in a country where Central Planning is the norm.   Just make sure you get in the 'in circle'.

Me...I'll take my dangerous freedom (thx Mr. Jefferson)

So you agree that Products should not be forced to carry a GMO label correct?   Where is out disagreement?

They pollinate neighboring non GMO fields, and then Monsanto sues the neighboring farmers and puts them out of business (because their GMO is patented).  This happens a lot.

You can opt out by buying organic, or buying from the companies that voluntarily label their products Non GMO.

If a Realtor is aware that a house is haunted they legally have to disclose that.

Don't misunderstand my statements.

I did not say that he is a great or even good mayor. Based on the selection that we had, he was the best option.

While I think he is the best we have to work with now, there are many things he does that I don't agree with.

Also, if you somehow think that we aren't already living in a fascist state, wake up and smell the coffee.

Corporations run this country. The senate is chosen from amongst the people to speak for the people, but instead of representatives that are willing to fight for the betterment of society, we have figureheads in Washington. Representatives that are sleeping with the lobbyists and only fighting for the rights and privileges of the corporations, the same corporations that keep them living the lavish lifestyle they have grown accustomed to, while guaranteeing permanent work within Washington (see the commonly used "Washington's revolving door" term".

We are in essence a fascist country parading around as capitalistic, but truthfully have socialism catering to the super rich or poor, while the middle class is subjected to the most brutal form of capitalism possible...

Most states require that sellers disclose the physical problems with a property, but in some states you need to reveal "emotional defects " ahead of time. Of course what and how much you need to disclose varies from state to state. In some places you can get away keeping it vague, but in New York the State Supreme Court has held that sellers must explicitly inform buyers of all defects—including intangible ones like hauntings.
