Mine was a was delt training with Matarazzo.
I remember this pic of Matarazzo in an ad for a Weider product in the same issue. He's got his arms out wide around two girls, wearning this black t-shirt, big old arms hanging out, and he looked like a total boss. I immediately went to the library and combed through every old issue of M&F they had trying to find out everything about how he trained so I could be just like him.
I still remember my first split, which was a copy cat of Matarazzo's split that was in M&F:
Monday: Chest
Tuesday: Delts
Wednesday: Back
Thursday: Legs
Friday: arms
weekend: rest, so your arms can fill out
Every workout was four or five exercises per bodypart, for 4 to 6 sets, failure on last two sets at 6 reps, first two to four sets done to warm-up with 12 to 10 reps.
God, those were the good old days. I remember the day I put his picture up on my closet door. My dad was not impressed with his 13 year old son and started talking to me about the benefits of dating girls.
