They are both well known bodybuilder with supplement contracts.  And together they only lived in a 407K house?  Man think of how many BBers out there juice, do everything to put their health in jeopardy devote their life to BB and one of the few that made it to the pro's and actually was decent only could afford a 407K house even with his wife, an elite fitness pro, helping out too.

Vanity is what keeps this sport going.  Its certainly not worth the risks and effort to make it to the big leagus.

And I am not talking about BB as a lifestyle, i mean competing/juicing etc

Unlike Los Angeles, and other extremely overvalued high prices areas, you can buy a very nice house for $400K in Las Vegas. One of my friends is selling their townhome here in Los Angeles for $460K and have already looked at the houses in Vegas. For $400K, you can big house in a good neighborhood, whether that be Las Vegas, Summerlin or Green Valley.

a $470,000 dollar house now probably cost around $250,000 or so to build a few years ago.  And yes even back then a huge house can be built.

Housing in Vegas is still pretty cheap, right? I know in Atlanta 400k will buy you real nice place, while 400k in South Fl ,gets you a townhouse.

Only 400K's a lot in Vegas-you can't make assumptions without knowing local market prices. That's a good amount of house in Las Vegas; the lower cost of living's part of why some like Jay live there.

Craig's house was shown in one of the news clips a few days ago. Nice as well as big.

You obviously don't follow the housing market.  A 400K house is huge in Las Vegas.  A similar house in LA, or SF will easily cost 800K to a mil.  I'm not defending ol' Craiggers but I'm sure his house is worth more than yours.  I believe he also had a gym added to his home.

Obvi 400K can buy a bigger house in certain areas than others.  If you paid 400K for a house where Ilive it would be a condo or a small townhouse, or a very small old house.

I'm just saying 400K aint that much, I don't know why it was mentioned in some of the articles.

Actually I am just bitter that I didnt get to take advantage of the weekend getaway with Craig and Kelly, wher ethey pick you up at the airport and you stay at their place and work out with them.   That would have made my life!!  Haha pathetic.

It's all cost of living differences....what cost $5 here costs $10 there......you earn $50 here you earn $75 there for the same thing.....a $400K house in Vegas = $800K in LA and $200K in San Antonio, TX.   Everything evens out because you're paid proportionally....only difference being if you live in Vegas and earn LA dollars.

Shawn, did you know they were into the "other" kind of lifestyle at that point? Not just the sex/swinging because I think everyone's heard stories from CA about that, but had they already started down the cocaine path to methville?

Depending on where you were living and where you are moving too there can be a BIG difference in COL and earnings increase.  In some cases a 30% COL and only a 5% pay increase for the same job.       Shocked

Salary Wizard (kind of fun to pop in different places and compare):

   http://swz.salary.com/CostOfLivingWizard/layoutscripts/coll_start.asp

Granted, the cost of living variances are an average for the city (area).....that city can be broken down into numerous individual markets with a wide range of living costs with to reach the median rate posted.    I kinda like the following link....prior to readin this thread I was comparing San Antonio, TX (my city) to some of my friends in California:  http://www.bankrate.com/brm/movecalc.asp .  It breaks down all kinds of general costs that most people encounter and compare them by area.....don't know how accurate it is, but it's fun to see the living increases based on whatever scale and measures they use to compare with.

FYI ~ I wouldn't take a 5% pay increase with 20-30% increase in cost of living LOL!!   I'm a valuable commodity....nobody can post on Getbig at work like I can!

when i bought my property in vegas two years ago, it was 1300 sq ft for 160k, and it was illegal to have grass in the front yard...  sold 18 month later for 240k due to the rise in housing prices in vegas now.  i bought my house just north of austin for 180k, brand new, 2400 square feet.  it would be worth 750k in vegas now.  you cant get shit for 400k in vegas now.  around 7500 people move to vegas each month, hence the rise in housing prices.  if they had a nice house, it was worth 400k two years ago.  if it is 400k now, its NOT that nice of a home.

They had a very interesting show on one time when I lived in Vegas.  It was a very bad future for Sin City.  It is growing so fast that it will outgrow its resources in 10 to 15 years.  The water table is just not there to provide water for 1+ million people. Lake Mead supplies other counties too.  It really made me think about investing there long time.  If you notice the strip floods more now because of the constant building west.  The asphalt and concrete has covered huge sections of moisture soaking land.  That is why they  had to build those huge pits on the westside.  I was there in 2000 during the major floods that flooded the strip and our office building.  I stood out front of my condo watching this lasy in her car float by me and ram into a wall.  As beautiful and fun Vegas is they are outgrowing themselves and it could end up desert again.

On top of the house that they lived in, they also owned 4 other homes which were either being rented out or completed. How much is your parent's house worth?

It's probably tough for him to assess that from his 'basement apartment'.

Exactly.  I do *not* want to be in Vegas when they "run out of water" and that's something that will eventually happen unless they put a moratorium on all new development.

I mean, how can you outlaw *grass*??
