Agreed Stan is the strongest! How about qualifying it by they have to have competed in more Bodybuilding shows than Powerlifting or Strongman contests!

What major bodybuilding contests has Stan ever competed in, and what was his highest placing?

Greg Kovacs and I'm not joking.  I was at Golds Venice and there was a crowd just watching in amazement at the weight he was lifting.  5 plates on the incline, not hammer bullshit but straight bar pressing with ease.  Fucker was a beast.

One guy I forgot about. Svend Karlsen. He has an IFBB Pro card. Obviously very strong, he won world strongest man in 2001.

But Stan is easily the strongest now active bb. Like IceCold said, Ronnie wasn't even close, even in full off-season mode. From what I've seen on youtube Stan is very lean so you can't say he couldn't lift what Ronnie did during contest prep.

Yeah, before he became one of the best overhead 320 pound strongmen, he was pretty ripped as a bodybuilder

DAMN, that was Gary? He was awesome in the early-mid 90's strongmen competition (even won the 1993 overall title in France)

Then for true elite bodybuilders who regularly competed, it has to be Ronnie for all-around strength.

Nah man, Kovacs was strong as fuck.  Super strong dude.  he shouldn't have gotten into bodybuilding though, better off being a powerlifter.

No, he was not. And I know this from seeing him lift when he was at his biggest and most jacked. His stated strength in MMI, etc. was greatly exaggerated.

by whom, using what criteria ::)

on a somewhat related note:

i'm more impressed by platz' 500 x 23 than an 800 lb squat

Well, what is difficult to grasp? Hips, back, shoulder girdle, triceps ... Again, what is the debate? These lifts best showcase maximal strength in these regions, and most optimally.

P.S. Absolutely, 500 for 23 is extremely impressive. But anyone who has progressed to impressive levels of performance with reps or maximum poundage knows each requires its own psychological discipline and physical sturdiness and fitness.

its almost a contradiction..... weight should mean nothing to a BB.

Neither do grapefruits but they're discussed here extensively

i'm on a mass gain phase now, and i've put on about 7 kg (around 15 pounds) over the past 6 weeks

bodyfat went up slightly from 6-7% to 8-9%

dude you've practically posted this exact same thing like 10 times now, over the course of months if not years... are you a beast by now, or what ???

if you were an olympic weightlifter, i wonder if you'd say the snatch or clean and jerk showcased "maximal strength"?

and please don't say "no, weightlifting is about power, not strength"

or if you do, please provide the definition of "strength" found in physics textbooks.

nice way of puts words in my mouth

anyways, i'm not trying to be a beast, my goal is something like this

i'm on a mass gain phase at the moment and i'll be dropping some A-bombs in real soon so if things go as planned i'll be up another 7-10 kg over the course of the next 6 weeks or so

then i'll refine that mass and be pretty near my goal me thinks

the key for me is to not puss out on the leg training

also, the best way to train for cosmetic effects is to pump and volumize with sets and reps, so i was wrong about prog overload and low volume training, or who knows maybe it is all drugs lol
