Godzilla 2014 - Reviews? Great CGI!
« on: May 16, 2014, 08:34:35 PM »
Anyone see it?  I loved it!!! Some slow shit but it builds up to some of the best CGI I've seen in a long time. Literally the whole audience tonight was cheering n clapping at the end of the big godzilla fight.

Build up is slow, lots of teasing. But dear god when things go down. It was AWESOME. Honestly, one of the best movie experiences I've had. Theater I was in went nuts at least 4 times in reaction to what happened on screen.

Just about to go watch it on the giant Glasgow IMAX science centre screen in 3d.
Hope it's worth the $20 per head tickets.

Crap. Well, $40 in and haven't yet seen it, I must muster up some enthusiasm. It can't be poorer than the last Spiderman, can it?    :-\

Or "Pacific Rim".  Lord, that one was dumb.  Not as dumb as me for seeing it though!  ;D

Ok if u r a godzilla fan yes these top level great actors must have been told to I don't know....overact a little...like in the old movies. Watanabe who is a talented actor def pours it on heavy n there I a general overall tone of the filming style of the old movies but dam!!!!  The cgi n the monster fight is fucking awesome. The people I saw it w has a daughter who doesn't like 3d so we didn't see it in 3d. I'm paying again just to go see it in 3d.

I'm sure there were a ton of people in the theatre last night that were not godzilla fans. There were a ton of girls il sure dragged in by their guys. But the whole fn theater went crazy like 4 times!!!

There's a line where watanabe says. "Let them fight". The whole fucking theatre went crazy.

I think the movie is def low key at first n u get glimpses of the monsters teasers like. That may be why by the end u r so fired up for the fight b it does not disappoint.

N pacific rim was fucking horrible. Could barely sit thru that piece of shit. No comparison. Man 3 quarters thru there is a long shot w godzilla in the SF bay. Worth the ticket price just for the incredible cgi.
Just go!

I saw it at the IMAX in 3D and the sense of scale was incredible. You really get a good sense of how massive Godzilla is. Godzilla doesn't have enough screen time and the fight scenes are very brief. While some fight scenes aren't shown at all, save for in short news clips only.

Wait until some of you discover PC gaming, if you think that was a great, "interactive" experience.

You were right. What a turd. How can you make a rampaging irradiated monster boring!?  Well, they found a way. Godzilla doesn't surface for an hour, and while such a ploy worked well in Jaws it blows, here. Cranston wasted, and doesn't fill a movie screen. Sally Hawkins (awesome actress) given nothing to do. David Straithairn (sp?) only guy given a meaty role, and fills screen nicely but they ran out of time for him. The new guy who plays the soldier/hero has less acting range than, say, Sam Worthington so that's less than a-b. Cripes. I wanted to see the thing laying waster to swaths of shit, and all I got was after-effect rubble and poor melodrama. 4/10

LOVE Racer X. Own all the band's albums, and the DVD, too. Gilbert rules.

As far as Godzilla, the movie, well, I'll be going in a few days FOR SURE. Cannot wait.

Good call. I'd be hesitant recommending this one even as an at-home vid watch. You guys go have a great time.

Pretty boring.
Took ages to start.
3D wasted, better with a high definition 2D.
Why did Godzilla feel to need to chase after the other creatures? How would it even know they existed?
What the fuck were all the cars doing being kept on the golden gate bridge when they could have driven off in 5 minutes?
Annoying fat wee kid supposed to be offspring of 2 skinny parents.
Typical Japanese experts who knew what the creatures would be trying to achieve despite having no knowledge of them.
How come a mere admiral makes the decisions? Where were the senior military / government folk?
3/10
