I don't care about either team but I had some money on Patriots to win and the under on 48 points so I was thrilled to break even when it looked like I was about to lose both. But, no matter how you look at it, that was one of the best superbowl games in recent history... right down to the wire. Loved it! Stupid call and all.

LOL that this is the only "logical" explanation...

How about everybody in the stadium and even the dead Nationwide kid thought that it was gonna be Lynch down the pipe. So, Truther Pete decided to do something different. Look, if it had worked, everybody would be hailing the obvious brilliant misdirection.

Instead, a rookie CB played the slant and watched Wilson's eyes and stepped up. It's fucked, but Occam's Razor shows the most likely answer is the answer. A too-clever play call backfired. Shit happens. I am just glad that it erased that fucked up magic catch on the 12.

Not true at all.  No hindsight here. That was the wrong play call 100 out or 100 times.  It's like being down by 1, open lane to the rim for a slam dunk and pulling up and missing a half court shot when time expires. Even worse about that pass was even if the reciever caught it I don't think he would have scored.  he was on the 1, he was moving sidways down the line and Butler was right behind him for the tackle along with another NE.
You're on the 1 inch line, 40 seconds, 1 timeout.  Lynch was beasting it up carrying players on his back.  NE was completely dejected about that miracle catch, it was all lined for Seattle and the most horrendeous nonsensicle play call in history was made.
On ESPN Herm Edwards was trying to defend the call and I can only think that's why he isn't a coach in the NFL anymore, no one wants a stupid jackass on their team making that horrible call.  Even if NE had 15 players lines up for a run, Seattle just had to punch it through.  Just a bad, bad, bad, bad, bad play call.  Wilson's also to blame on that pass.  That type of pass needed to be low so that if the reciever missed the DB wouldn't have a shot.  he passed it too high.  The reciever also was just floating to catch it and got knocked sideways.  He wasn't aggressive enough.  Just a stupid call from top to bottom.

Michael Irvin on GameDayFinal said they were trying to make Russell Wilson the star and take attention away from Marshawn Lynch. Therefore, justifying paying Wilson and cutting Lynch in the offseason and justifying the call.

Both men up for monster contracts, the team can only pay one.

So maybe it's the potential crotch grab, maybe it's the money/cutting issue, maybe they just wanted to make sure the man with the game-winning play wasn't going to stonewall the reporter or say something horribly stupid for the nation.  Very possible.

we now have hall of famer Michael irvin saying business/perception issues played into taking the ball out of beastmode's hands in the final seconds of a game at the 1/2 yard line.   Hmmmm

* and... Lynch was wide open in back of end zone on this play.  Russell was in on it too?  never even looked toward the best offenseive player on the field, who was on fire?
http://deadspin.com/seattles-game-ending-int-makes-no-sense-no-matter-how-m-1683182376

the more i think of it... the more I think Caroll/wilson didn't want Lynch to get the game winner... and grab dick... or refuse to talk to reporters... etc etc.   They wanted to win it without him.  I'm convinced.  So is Michael Irvin.   The rest of the world will catch up eventually.

Nope. Seattle made is seem all season long that Lynch wasn't coming back.  It was discussed that he'd be a Raider next season.  Seattle has been planning to cut ties with him.  But that play call, horrible, just horrible.  So wrong on every levl.  When I saw Wilson in the shotgun I was screaming at what the fuck they were doing.

Jim Rome was talking about rehab.  they just do it as a way to rebuild their image but never actually go to any rehab or spend time there.  It is just a new hollywood way of saying you're trying to change.

I'm shocked the team didn't woop the ass of whoever made that call.  Worst call in sports history.  Like I said. Even if he caught it, the Safety was on him, another DB behind him and he was move parallel on the 1 across the field.  I beleive if he caught it he wouldn't have scored and was in position to be popped hard enough to cough up the ball for a fumble.  Just the most horrible call ever.

Anything would have been a better call than that.  If they really wanted a non lynch play for one down, Wilson could've faked a handoff and bootlegged towards the pylon.

lol, even NE thought WTF

“What were they thinking!’’ Browner said. “I just really feel like sometimes these coaches are so intelligent they out-strategize themselves. It’s simple. You turn around and give it to the best back in the game. He picked up like four yards and landed a yard away from the end zone the play before.’’

let's pose the Q this way... Do you think Pete Caroll had a preference as to who got the game-winning TD?

before you say "of course not, coaches harbor no personal feelings toward players!",

Remember that Caroll had to admit to media this week that he cannot control Lynch.  He cannot stop him from grabbing his penis on plays.  He didn't look happy, he looked a little embarrassed saying it - we all know Belichick would bench brady himself if he was grabbing penis lol, real men coaches don't allow that bullshit.

So, IF we can accept pete Caroll would be okay if the game-winner wasn't going to the Lynch, maybe a little preferable...(as long as they still won).

And, most reasonable people would believe that with 3 tries from the 1/2 yard line, and an incredibly mobile and motivated Wilson at QB... they'd certainly get it in, it was just a matter of how.

So MAYBE Truther Pete intentionally skips giving Lynch the play-call.   Use him on the 3rd try if all else fails, but for pete's sake, try not to let this idiot lynch be in a position where he's refusing to answer Qs about the game, after scoring the winner.  Even bigger national embarrassment.

I guess what I'm saying is - given NFL is the biggest sport AND the biggest tv show in the world, with billions on the line...

Given the NFL cut away from the "taking a poo" celebration...

Don't you think there was probably a consensus among the 'adults' in the room that "ya know, lynch has been acting like a fool to reporters... maybe we can do whatever it takes to keep him from being the global face, to 1 billion fans, after a close game?"

I mean, it's a business, and making beastmode the spokesman for the brand?  He wore his own brand hat and violated rules - maybe he uses this global platform to talk about his hats.  Or maybe the other stuff about being a victim, about not caring.  Maybe he just says "I refuse to talk to you" or just flips the bird.

POINT IS>>> you have a multi-BILLION dollar enterprise... do you really hand it to a spokesman when his words might end up being the story?  You cannot control him, predict him, or even ask him not to grab his penis with a billion people watching.  If YOU run this company, do you give this idiot the ball, the winning glory, and the platform?

Lynch is awesome to get them to the 1... but I think Wilson, Caroll, Goodell, all of them would have *preferred* it was "anyone but Lynch" doing the interview after the game.

No, not for one minute.

No?   You're coach, and you have one prick that's been disrespecting you all year.  You can still get the win, you know it.

Is there a 1% chance that Petey (a truther who bangs college chicks, cheats a lot, and gives no fcks), maybe makes the IMMATURE move and just decides "I'm gonna let someone get the glory who didn't diss me all year..."

He's only human.  And he's an emotionally-driven human.  And he thought there was a 100% chance he'd win anyway... at the 1 yard line.

No.  It's not even in his thought process.  Win the game with the players you have.

He just got too cute.

Well, looks like sources inside the Seahwaks organization believe it too... It's making more and more sense.  It made sense to me instantly.  Jerk player you cannot control, you think you can win game without him, he's going to embarass them with celebration and post-win interview, he's an overall prick, and again - you think you can win anyway.   Now we see NFL players coming fwd...

If it's true Carroll should be fired.

Anyway, I still don't believe it.  The guy has been one of the main reasons for success for the team.  To risk it all on something so petty that nobody's going to care about, seems completely insane.

The truth is, the call was so blatantly stupid, people are trying to find a rational reason.  He gave away the Super Bowl.

The Pats KNEW that Pete wouldn't give the glory to Lynch - they had their pass defense package in there - even though Lynch took them to the 1.

The Patriots Knew Exactly What Was Coming
http://deadspin.com/the-patriots-knew-exactly-what-was-coming-1683211802?utm_campaign=socialflow_deadspin_facebook&utm_source=deadspin_facebook&utm_medium=socialflow

It reminds me of one of those sports movies... varsity blues or one of those.  The black QB was complaining that coach would use him as the workhorse to get to the red zone, then let the star QB (a white kid, coach's son, etc) get the glory and the TDs.  The only time the RB got a TD was when he broke for 20 yards or more.

In this case - I think Pete legitimately wanted to use Lynch to get down the field, but didn't want him to get the glory, the dance, the mic, the interview, and the off-season $ leverage, and any other emotional reasons.   He wanted to give that to his QB Wilson, who is polite and respectful and a great face for the organization.  He thought he'd win anyway.

now we have seahwaks saying it was planned not to give lynch the final TD.  And now we know PATS knew the ball wasn't going to him either, they took out their run defense and were ready for the pass to the receiver all the way.

with billions on the line, and lynch a total idiot/embarassing/etc, it makes sense.
