4 days on, 4 days off is one of the best shift patterns going. 12 hour shifts x4 then 4 days off. It works out roughly the same yearly as doing 40 hour weeks.

Only downside is you have no fixed days off during the week and you're working a lot of weekends. But when you factor in being able to take 4 days annual leave multiple times a year, which basically gives you 12 straight days off. Great for taking holidays and travelling

The other shift pattern which works well is working early mornings. 6am to 3pm etc. Lots of time to enjoy your evenings. You get used to the early mornings  and sleeping 6 hours a night rather then 8. In fact you'll probably feel better for it.

Still nothing beats working for yourself.
Agree with everything you said, I do 4 x 11 hour shifts then have 4 days off, it's great and I'm able to get a shitload done that I wouldn't otherwise be able to do working min to fri, can also put 2 full days overtime in and still have 2 days off, again impossible on Monday to Friday shift pattern.
Worked for myself for 8 years and like you said that's the only thing that beats it

80-90hrs a week?

Enjoy your burnout to come...

At that rate, you have 0 time to cook your own food, clean your own clothes, so the extra money you make is lost to have people do that for you.

The lack of sleep, bad eating and overworking can only lead to one thing.
this....i remember when i hit my burnout point at work...these days i work just enough to fuel my hobbies

I work salary these days...not hourly..children and broke bastards work hourly...I show up and work maybe 28 hours a week...I feel that's pushing it....I'm just waiting to quit and become a full time BBQ competition competitor lol

I have no passion for it anymore...just want to compete in BBQ and have a family...yes, i know its a lofty dream!

My attorney charges me a pretty nice "hourly" rate... He is my neighbor so I admittedly do get a little discount.. But I am sure that we are simple "broke bastards" in comparison to a big shot salaried man like you... Lol.

40 hours sucks. Should be less. Not sure why people have this obsession with work  ???

You can always get an elected seat in our government and "work" 4 5hr days and have Friday's plus the weekends off making $170k year + $1mil for expenses.

future generations will have even worse working and living conditions due to overpopulation. There will always be a small luckier, smarter fraction of the society that benefits from the dumber, unlucky majority slaving away. Nothing will ever change.

Go bed at 11pm and wake up at 5am. It's the quality of the sleep that counts and 6 hours is plenty. You do end up catching up on it on the weekend though. They'll be a day when you sleep 12 hours straight.

Getbigger goes to bed at 11PM, he's banging Ho's till 2 or 3 in the morning...2 to 3 hours of sleep a night isn't going to cut it...

It's only going to get worse for the middle class sons/daughters and grand kids...They will end up working more hours than we ever did. Why? Because they are going to want more useless gadgets...And shelter and food will basically always get more expensive...

i started working longer hours because it makes my job less stresful.  i dont feel rushed, can take my time and do things properly.  that said, im out the door at 7 and often not back til 8.

im still learning how to deal with a full time job. it's been a massive change, and required a huge transformation of identity to retain my sanity.  still have strong doubts im succeeding on that count, no less...

The last 5 years I did around 75 hour weeks (salary so no OT) but i could do it from home when I wanted. Now its normalized again since our company was bought, so I'm closer to 40 hrs now, feels much better.

I go into the office 4 days a week (mon - thu), maybe 6 hours a day (9 to 3). (24 hours) the rest I do from home. (Firewall migrations in remote locations, etc)...

Then it's off to the gym when Im done for the day, which is only a few steps away from my home office out in my garage.
House and 5 cars paid off (family of 4 plus my extra truck for plowing, etc) , so no debt, just paying for 2 kids in college (without taking loans)...

In 5 years when I'm 53, I'll start winding it down (after kids graduate). 30 years of 401K's with employer matching has really built up over the years for retirement...

Maybe I'll go do the 4 hr. a day UPS thing, just for their insane benefits and the exercise...

I've turned down jobs offering more pay when I realized they wanted me to work more hours than I do now.  In the end I'd end up getting paid less per hour even though I'm a salaried employee.

The people that fucked up the whole 40 hour expectation are the Asians and Indians who work 12 hours a day so companies expect everyone to put in the same time which is bullshit.
