He's become annoying. Mostly because of his annoying wife and kids.

Because it sucks ass.  This should have been obvious to anyone that saw the trailer.  Honestly, the concept itself sucked even before they even did any casting or shooting.

All the way around this is a bad idea.  They should have just kept Harley and the Joker and stuck them in the solo Batman movie.  We don't need the "The Avengers: Villain Edition".

Fire whoever came up with this idea.

Well, the suicide squad books are top notch.

I get the idea, I do, but DC has had a huge issue in translating their great stories on paper into great stories on film.

This is the last movie that was done before Geoff Johns took over the DC movie universe. He is an amazing storyteller and will turn this DC movie thing around.

As a matter of fact, I will go on a limb now and say that the first movie he's heading up will be a great movie.

did they get rid of snyder?

also the batman vs superman movie , all they had to do was follow the dark knight returns story that frank miller wrote, and the movie would have been great,  but nope now warner anal brothers. had to fuck it up .

I can't watch Will Smith anymore.  He's done but won't accept it.  Annoying as fuck.

They are putting Geoff Johns in charge of the movie universe. That's all I know. He's a true storytelling genius too.

They should make Mr and Mrs Smith II except put Will and Jaden Smith in it and make it a documentary.

That's a good question. We are going to find out.

If they give him the freedom that marvel gave to Whedon, then it will be good stuff.

Smith fucked up his reputation by getting involved in that Oscar boycott farce. Add that to his talent-less son being forcibly pushed down our throats.

It's a shame really because the 90's Will Smith was pretty bad-ass.

Buzzfeed didn't like this movie because of how the female characters were portrayed. I guess it must be doing something right if it manages to piss off SJW feminists. :D

https://www.buzzfeed.com/alisonwillmore/how-suicide-squad-uses-and-abuses-harley-quinn?utm_term=.ixABZ1D60#.osJ2GeDdw

However, the trailer isn't promising. It looks disjointed. Killer Croc also just looks like some Dindu with reptilian skin. They should have instead just ripped off the Croc design from the Batman Arkham games. Way cooler.

Just got out.

I thought it was ok. Jared Leto's Joker was different but very good. Actually very close to the comic for sure. I liked it.

I think someone earlier said it being a Will Smith focus. Unfortunately they were right. I really would have rather seen someone else as Deadshot.

The rest of the case was pretty good though. Story seemed a bit tossed together but it wasn't the worst thing I ever saw.

It's definitely built to continue the DC movie universe.

3.5 out of 5 stars.

Not so true.  The animated DC movies have been top notch.  They tend to go darker than the live action movies.  The Flashpoint paradox is by far one of the best comic book movies ever.  In the animation movies they have Superman being bad ass, Batman being bad ass and joker being a fucking ruthless lunatic.  Not sure why they can't just use the same scripts in a live action movie.

I haven't been a comic book fan since the Superman dies issue and have yet to see a Super-Hero movie that I really enjoyed, but I am somewhat compelled to spend a few bucks and see Super-Hero flicks during their opening week simply because family members are usually involved in their production in some limited (and the occasionally  unlimited) capacity.

And I am VeRY SUPRISED that SS is getting such bad reviews but never-the-less I think it will cover its expenses over the long run and all involved will be seeing decent residual checks when it goes to DVD.

And I have never heard of Geoff Johns until I read this Board and so I did some research on him to attempt to find out why he is so impressive among the members of GetBig.

He sure as hell has tons of experience int he comic book industry and now it will be interesting to see how his association with the silver screen works out.

Has he ever been involved within he motion picture industry before?

It's one hell of a cut-throat ball game and extremely difficult to master!

I'm not speaking of the animated movies as they live in a different universe than the DC Movie Universe (according to DC... confusing as hell), but yes, those movies have all been extremely top notch.

Suicide Squad wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible. It was definitely above average. There will definitely be a sequel. Pre-release showings did 20 million. It's going to be fine from a money perspective.

I think people are reviewing it a little harshly to be honest. I thought the same thing of BMvsSM.

The next 2 movies will tell the tale on the DCMU. If they are good, then all will be forgiven.

I thought it was enjoyable enough.

I don't think Geoff Johns has had much involvement with movies prior to now, but he has been extensively involved in the Arrow and Flash TV shows. I also think he has written some TV show scripts.

I think he can right the ship.

HOLMES, I hope you and other GetBiggers don't call me an SOB or something even worser but I honestly think that Suicide Squad just might possibly set new box office records this weekend .... even with all the bad publicity it has been getting by professional reviewers and here on this GetBig Board.

How does $120,000,000 to $130,000,000 sound?

And those figures are just my wild guess as a non-participant within this crazy industry this time out.

Sometime, but just sometimes, bad publicity encourages a bigger gate.

A lot of talk in the LA area right now regarding the success or failure of this film.

Might be more. Their Thursday plus Friday Midnight numbers are just behind Batman Vs. Superman...

Batman vs. Superman brought in 166 Million.

It could easily push into 140-150 million this weekend, which would be the biggest August opening weekend in history.

I also want to mention that while Jared Leto's Joker is only in the movie for a short time, he was actually quite good.

Stunt, I would never call you any such names. You have been a fantastic member of getbig. I am glad you are here to converse with.

Holmes, I made a couple of call but still can't get an answer regarding what it cost to make this movie.

And that would have to include the post production figures.

Interested in this because residuals are dependent on the actual profit when it gets released to DVD ...... providing it's the same as it used to be.

Great to see you backing me up about this weekend's box office snd projecting even higher than my amateur guesstimate..

A number of friends are involved and i have high hopes  that their difficult efforts during the filming of this production will be rewarding.

On the flip side, it sucks that DC keeps turning out bad movies.   Short term success for BvS and SS in their opening weeks might not lend itself to long term success for the franchise.

Any money they make from a big opening weekend might just cover the marketing budget from promoting this movie for over a month.  It's the follow up weekends where they start dipping into the filming budget.

BLANCO, You raise another interesting topic of movie making  conversation which I will try to get more info on.

That is ..... How much do these Hollywood studios budget for post production expenses such as marketing and advertising expenses?

I used to have a pretty good idea of what those figures used to be but am no longer privileged to receive that information unless it is posted somewhere on this here internet.

No idea now but it used to be somewhere around 40 - 50% of the production costs.

Who determines and approves these expenses is now  way beyond my expertise.

It's the mass marketing blitz that gets a shitty movie a number 1 spot for a week and in the past it used to work well to get a second or third week until word spread the movie was crap.  Problem is today word spreads in an instant so they never get the following weeks.  I think the last movie to not open at number 1 but then hit number 1 a couple weeks later and stay there was the original Matrix.  It did little publicity but as people saw it word spread at how amazing it was and then the masses started to catch on and go.
