Other than the fact that they both have four doors and a trunk, how are they exactly alike? I never think a 7 Series is just like a Camry when I'm sitting in it.
Agreed
I drive a lowly 5 series on account of abject poverty.
Get in a similar sized Camry or Accord (and let's face it the 7 is bigger than both) and it's like driving a fish. No feel of the road, no power, just a general feeling of being completely underwhelmed.
I test drove a ton of cars before buying the 5 but them nissans, toyoties & hondas just don't have any guts or feel. There is no fun in driving them. Get in any BMW - even a 320 and take it for a spin and you'll come out with a smile on your face - 'cause that's what BMW do. They make cars that make you want to take the long route home.
As for reliability - well the downside of having a car with so much 'stuff' in them is that there's more to go wrong. On my car, you don't even have to close the doors all the way, you just pull them almost closed and then the door does the rest and closes itself. Absolutely pointless thing to have on a car to be honest, but let's face it - Toyota, Honda and Nissan will all have it in a few years because they all try to copy BMW features.
