maybe just do 2 sets on each exercise Karen. 2 good sets are enough.

Legs (excluding calves) followed by 20 mins of treadmill

Barbell back squats x 4 sets  (kept it light but high reps at 20 per set)
SLD x 4 sets  (high reps again, moderate weight)
thigh extension machine x 4 sets

My quads were really feeling it during squats.  I haven't done any compound movements such as squats for months due to the fact that I had pretty bad asthma as a result of the sinus blockage and had little air getting down into my lungs.  This is probably my fav exercise for legs, so it was really good to do it again.  It made me happy anyway, which is what I needed.  With the combo of squats and SLD, my hamstrings were cramping up so I only did a short workout today.  I bumped into a couple of really good friends natty bb competitors and they gave me the prep talk that I needed to hear.  She said that my cortisol levels will be through the roof, which won't be helping and I already knew this.  Anyway it was good to hear this from friends which know me well and had a positive effect.  So I feel normal again.  I am just going to listen to my body and not push it too hard too soon... will do it gradually and not put pressure on myself.

maybe just do 2 sets on each exercise Karen. 2 good sets are enough. Today i will get my bubble butt outside and will run at 6pm with a friend. He is a runner and i know it will hurt, sweat out the booze ;D before hand i will work legs(not a good idea if i run later but i will just have to) Today:

Dumbbell squats 4x15
Dumbbell stiff legged Deadlifts 4x15
Dumbbell lunges 3x10
one legged Dumbbell calf raise 5x12+

Ab crunches calves on a Bench 3x max

thatīs it very simple and i like Dumbbells too..higher reps.
I find that legs respond well to high reps Donny.  I like to do 30 reps per set for leg exercises to start with and as I increase weight, I still do high reps (25 ) but at the end of my sets (5th and 6th) I am doing max weight for 6-8 reps.  I go for the burn and just push past it...zone out.
It's going to kill you though to train legs and then go for a run.  Good luck..haha

Thank you njflex and yes it's frustrating as hell.  I am very hard on myself which doesn't help.  Just got to take my own advice which I would dish out to others, that's all.

i keep simple approach,,i like training for one,,i eat home cooked clean foods,,,rice brown, oats, greek yogurt, cooked chicken, fish, canned tuna as well, fruits everyday 3-4 services no matter what day/weekends,,i eat peanutbutter/olive oil for extra fats,,snacks could be low fat graham crackers or wheat crackers,or some low fat icecream if needed/wanted.train 4x per wk abs and calves done 2x everything else once ,,train with some volume depending body part larger 15/16 smaller 9/11,,,train smart in terms of weight but pretty heavy relative for me ,,example heavy weight on squats for me is 405 repped 8 zone,,,bent over rows 225/255 heaviest set,,hard to believe i do zero 'cardio'diet and fast intense training keeps me ripped...a little insight on my routine...

So my diet consists of plenty of salads especially in this hot weather.  I eat no red meat what so ever, but eat plenty of fish especially salmon and I eat alot of prawns (shrimp for yanks) and callamari.  Basically I eat any seafoods apart from octopus, that's the only thing I won't touch.  I eat alot of veges although not so much in this hot weather....save it more for winter.  Sweet potatoe really agrees with me as does rice.  I don't touch brown rice though as it makes me incredibly lethargic.  I love fruits, especially bananas because I can always carry one with me and eat where ever.  I will take a banana with me to the gym to eat afterwards.  I eat chicken and turkey but lately I have only eaten chicken once in the past two months for some reason.  Just been sticking to fish.  I drink as much water as I can during the day.  No soft drinks ever...the bubbles really upset my stomach lately and I am unable to drink anything with bubbles.  I used to drink an occasional pepsi max but due to the tummy upset, no longer do.  I gave up tea a while ago so the only caffeine I drink is two cups of coffee in the mornings with soy milk...no sugar.  I will drink a mocha on soy when out with my girlfriends though.  That's like a splurge.  I like oats for breakfast (save the horse jokes  :P) and I eat egg white omlettes either with mixed veges or just plain.  I like a slow release protein powder...bsn syntha6 is the one I use and have for the past 5 years.  I used to use a wpi but to be honest it's like water...it does nothing for hunger and I feel I get better results on a slow release one.

Just so you know, we also have prawns in the U.S. The main difference between shrimp and prawns is size. Prawns are larger. The other difference is price. Prawns are more expensive than shrimp.

My wife and I do like to eat well. Years ago, my wife did catering on the side. We were both probably somewhat spoiled as kids with respect to the fact that our parents could afford to feed us well. The first eight years of my life, I lived with a variety of relatives all over the world. Because of this, I was exposed to a lot more foods then the average kid would be. Most 5 year olds don't travel to Europe on an ocean liner such as the SS Ile de France, sitting at the captain's table for meals because their grandmother and the captain are old friends and eating foods like turtle soup. My early exposure to a huge variety of foods resulted in my willingness to try almost anything once. There is very little that I don't like eating.

I don't think my wife and I are food snobs though. Last night we had red beans and rice for dinner. The other night we had tuna noodle casserole. Sometimes we eat chicken pot pies from Costco. For breakfast today we had Eggo waffles.  So it isn't as if we eat sword fish, filet mignon or lobster all the time. However, we generally feed guests something a little fancier than tuna noodle casserole. LOL!

mmmm food. We don`t go for the exotic here but something can be said for raising your own beef. When I have a steer butchered I get to decide on how thick I want my steaks, if you are a guest in my home a T-bone and inch and half thick will be put on your plate. Nothing like eating a nice steak that would set you back well over $100 in a premium steakhouse.
I have a way of smoking them over hickory that makes for some of the finest steaks you have ever tasted.

I lived on a cousin's farm when I was 7 years old. They butchered a young steer every year. No beef has ever compared to the what that beef. It was a dairy farm. The ice-cream we churned in the summer was out of this world. There was always fresh milk and butter too. Too bad my stay with them was cut short or I would probably have put on some size as a kid.

I was supose to train today, but the heavy rain has kept me from driving to the gym.   I don't want to get soaking wet and then train in air conditioning.  Plus I woke up with ear ache and pain behind my eyes due to the swelling in my nose...it still hasn't gone down from the other day.  I will be stepping out of my comfort zone tomorrow when I train and doing something different.  I will post up my programme when I train.
