take it easy today. look after yourself. I will train and then see in the New Year itīs 11.52AM here now. My 2 sons are going out to partys and i will have a quite night at home. Did enough celebrating over Xmas...lol.
Yes I will be training on new years day also Donny.  It's a good way to start off 2013.  I am having a quiet one also tonight.  I just heard the fire works go off, so they did decide to do them after all here.  But I couldn't see anything from my house and usually I can.  So I dare say the rain has played a role in that.

We are staying in tonight. Dinner is cheese fondue and salad with homemade cookies for desert. I cannot remember the last time we went out on New Year's Eve. What's the point? If you have a drink and your smart, you'll take a cab home. The police are always out in full force on New Year's. At least if your home, you don't have to worry about all the other crazy folks on the road and if you want a drink then so what?

any sore heads on here...? ;D well i am sore today(my muscles) after my workout yesterday. The combination of BB pullovers and DB flyes was very hard. I knew it would be best to do this at the end. I used lighter weight on the flyes too because i wanted to keep good form... being careful on my shoulders.

No alcohol for me Donny, so the only thing sore on me is my quads (still but almost recovered) and the tip of my nose (from swelling).  I didn't train today, just watched movies as I figured I would give my body and nose one more day of rest.  Happy New Year to all!
All I have wanted all day is cheesecake, but couldn't find any place open for it.  I will get some this week when everything opens here again.

No alcohol for me. I did get a big slice of cherry cheesecake last night and one cupcake, little cheat eating at a party but nothing more. Went to bed a 2:30, dogs let me sleep in til 8 and said thats enough, out of bed.  :D
Lifted sunday, boxing and running yesterday, today when the rain lets up I want to take the dogs on a nice 3 mile walk up the mountain. I am considering starting to carry my backpack again, I used to load it with freeweights wrapped in towels and hike. You would be surprised how much just a 30lb pack can work your legs.

Good post.. walking with a weighted rucksack is great. One thing i found intresting was in Steve Reeves Book "Building the Classic physique the Natural way" he said he devised a weight belt filled with shot that in his words..."the midsection is where the human body can naturally carry the most weight , just above the hip bones . so it is a perfect place to add weight in exercising". with this he advised hand weights.. i have always used a rucksack as you do and have never tried a belt. I have also thought about getting a weighted vest.

Steve Reeves also wrote that he built his calves delivering newspapers in a hilly area on a bicycle as a kid. In those days bikes had one speed (I know, I had one) so it was all leg work and he must have had to stand to pedal up those hills with a canvas newspaper bag filled with papers. I never had a paper route, but a friend did. I would help him deliver papers sometimes so he could get done quicker and we could do other stuff like ride to the beach. Apparently, I didn't do this often enough since my calves are weak.

as a kid i did a paper round too as we called it. The boss was an ex Argyll Sgt Maj and i have to say i liked him. was a hard guy but sound as a pound. later i did a milk round ..we hung on the back of a milk wagon and jumped off with a crate of milk or 2 cariers with 6 in each (hand) run like hell and run door to door . I still believe to this day i found the Army fitness entrance run not easy but "ok" because of my activity.

so today i will train legs:

pre-exhaust supersets:

leg extensions 3x15
Front Squats   3x15

Leg curls 3x15
stiff legged deads 3x15

Jumping rope with
standind one legged calf raises 3x 15( will maybe go over 15 reps and then partial reps to failure)

Abs.. Double crunches 2x 50 superset with  lying leg raises max reps.. i will enjoy the pain  ;)

so there we have it very simple and the front squats will stimulate my front quads a bit diffrent. A fast moving workout to get me sweating.

NICE,,,,I'VE DONE THOSE TYPE WORKOUTS PUMP IS EXCRUCIATING,,,LEGS RESPOND TO HIGHER REPS I THINK,,HEAVY LOAD WORKOUTS LOW TO MID REP SQUATS AND LEG PRESSES HAVE THERE PLACE,,BUT VOLUME /HI REP 12-15 IS THE BEST ..

Anyone setting goals for this year? For me I am going to keep it pretty simple, stay healthy and hang with a steady routine. I already know work is going to be a ball buster this year so my aim is consitency, slow steady progress. I have some numbers I would like to reach of course but staying with the workouts when work gets busy will probably be the biggest challenge.

A good post. maybe you can do an abbreviated routine when your very busy and will keep you "ticking over". when iīm very busy i do this and just concentrate on the important basic exercises. My goals are really pretty much the same as yours...i think a good goal is to try to be positive and keep healthy. Funny i met an old friend the other day who i have not seen for 9/10 years and he said iīm quieter.. :)

If you mean like making resolutions, then no. I don't believe in that. However, I do expect to get back into good exercise routine, which I have fallen away from in the past year. I am also going to try to keep it simple and not become obsessed with working out, like I've sometimes done in the past. At the grand old age of 68 with friends and family dropping like flies, I've concluded that variety is the spice of life. I will make every effort to live life to its fullest each and every day because one never knows which day will be their last one.

prime...you will i am sure be around for a long Time  yet

Not to be melodramatic or anything, but some days I would agree with you and sometimes I feel very old and tired.

Today, I found out that a cousin of mine just died a few days ago in his sleep. Armand was just 71 years old, two and a half years older than me. He was a farmer in the Midwest and he was hardy fellow. When I was a kid of seven and lived with these cousins, he was like my big brother. This part of my family are hardy people who live good clean uncomplicated lives for the most part. They should out live the rest of us.

Three days ago, a good friend's husband, who is younger than I am, fell and fractured his skull among other injuries. He was put on a permanent feeding tube today as well as other life support since he cannot breath on his own. Frankly, it doesn't look good for him.

A long time ago, a friend and fellow bodybuilder (actually he got me started bodybuilding) complained to me that you really start to realize how mortal you are when your contemporaries start dying. Well guess what? My contemporaries have been dying for some time now.

The weather was beautiful today as I drove around running errands. The sun was out and the air was crisp. I had my two puppies in the car with me. It was one of those days when you just want to live forever....but sadly, that isn't possible.
