What a day! What a day!

Two weeks ago, I took my lawnmower in for spring servicing. When I picked it up they told me that it had run out of oil and this caused the engine to seize up. They were able to get it running but could not guarantee how long the engine might last. Had they called me before fixing it, I would have scrapped the mower because it was nearly 20 years old. Anyway, I paid the $110 repair bill and brought it home. Mowed the back yard and a few days later mowed the front when it conked out. The way it sounded when it died, I just knew it was gone for good.

Today I went shopping for a new lawnmower. After checking out mowers at all the big box stores, I ended up back at the mower shop that repaired my old mower. Interestingly, this was the first place where someone actually approached me to sell me a mower. While the clerk was explaining the advantages of different models, I mentioned the recent repair and the results. He looked up my invoice and offered me $50 for my dead mower off the price of a new one. I decided to go for it. The only problem being I didn't have the old mower with me so I had to go home and get it.

My ride is a station wagon. If I drop the handle the mower fits in the back of the wagon. This is how I hauled it to the shop and back each year when I would get it tuned up. So I loaded the mower in the back and took off for the lawnmower store. As I drove down the hill, I realized I'd forgotten to but the bag in, so I cut through the driveway of some town homes at the bottom of my hill to head back home to get the bag. Although I was driving slow, when I hit the speed bump, the lawnmower handle crashed against the tailgate glass and it shattered to smithereens. Shit! So, what else was there to do but drive on over to the lawnmower shop an complete my purchase.

I spent about an hour on the phone with the company who will be replacing the glass this Saturday. Apparently they were having phone issues and the call kept getting dropped. It took 4 tries to complete the transaction. Who knew I was so patient? My insurance will cover all but $100 of the cost. Nice, now my new mower just got a little bit more expensive. Like I said, what a day!

A couple of years ago, I bought myself an old fashioned push mower. Unfortunately it does a lousy job cutting the grass. When I bought it, I thought I'd be getting some more exercise while keeping the grass cut. During the growing season, I cut the grass twice a week. Like you, I am a little obsessed with perfection. I just sprayed moss kill on the lawn last week. I plan on over seeding early in April if the weather holds out.

I try and spend not less then a half hour in the yard every day. It is therapeutic. Some days, I just walk around the checking out how everything is growing. At this time of year doing just that can be very gratifying. One Rhododendron is not doing well of three that were planted last year. I have no idea why and it bothers me. On the other hand, I planted a lot of Daffodils and I planted them rather late. They are all coming up. Several Paper whites, which I really like, are about to burst into bloom.

Keep the pics coming guys . Great work from everyone and prime you can mow my lawn.  It grows fast from the heat and rain we have been getting lately. I hate gardening.  When I was little I did have a part of the garden that was my own to look after. I grew really pretty flowers and I did enjoy this. I think I stopped after a big fat bumble bee chased me one day after I put the hose on it.

Today I went to the urologist for my nine month check up following the prostatectomy I had last July. My PSA remains at 0.02 or undetectable, which is excellent. When I did the labs in preparation for this appointment, they also checked my total testosterone levels. Unfortunately, my total testosterone is right at 200 which is extremely low. The doctor said I could resume injecting testosterone cypionate, even though it has not yet been a year since the surgery. The low testosterone explains a lot. Among other things, it explains why I am so tired all the time and why I have almost no ambition to do anything....like go to the gym. I came home and immediately administered an injection. It is probably all in my head at this time, but I already feel peppier.

Ah Sunday dinner....I fixed a corned beef with cabbage, carrots and potatoes. It was so tasty, my wife ate too much and was up sick all night as a result. I've got to stop cooking!
