PrimeMuscle:  Congrats on your renewed efforts.

Not a dis by any means:  Just might suggest that doing 26 total sets for arm work may prove to be counterproductive in the long (or even short) run. Even for most young guy's in their 20's, this might prove to be way too much...even at once a week. But as a  68 year old man, perhaps enthusiasm  has overtaken a practical approach to  common  sense training.

Dropping 18 to 20 sets, from a arm program like that, may produce better results. But if you find a arm program like that rewarding for you, and you do know your own body better than most, than good for you. Good Luck.

You could be right, however I have done this routine in the past (when I was over 65) and had pretty good success with it. One thing I did not make clear is all the exercises as listed included 1 or 2 warm-up sets and then at least 2 work sets. Another thing is that I won't directly work arms again for a week. The idea here is to allow plenty of recuperation time, which is meant to address sometimes slower recuperation in older folks.

We'll see how my arms feel tomorrow. Right now they have that "good" sore feeling and not the "oops I did too much" pain.

I worked hamstrings and calves today. I will post the workout separately.

Tuesday: Hamstring and Calves

Lying leg curls 4X10-6
Standing calf raises 4X8-15
Seated leg curls 3X8-6
Leg Press machine calf raises 3X15-12
Reverse hack squats 3X8-4
Seated calf raises 3X15-12
Hip abduction 3X15-10
Hip adduction 3X15-10

Workout took 45 minutes on the button. No cardio yet....maybe next week.

The rest time between sets is supposed to be 2 minutes. Usually, I can't wait that long. I think the only time I went the full 2 minutes was on the reverse hack squats because I was using a fair amount of weight. My ass needs a good workout because it is looking flat.  ;)

Not to worry, I have a long ways to go to catch up with you. Your legs are amazing, like in my dream legs. Everyone has a favorite body part, for me it has always been legs. I think men with big quads are so masculine looking (no homo). I think when you have muscular legs you walk differently. I want to walk like that.

This is only half of my leg routine on this program. I will be working quads plus calves for the second time on Saturday. I want to flash some 27" quads again, sometime before I die of old age.

I'll post tomorrow's back workout once I have completed it.

Do you have any thoughts about whether it is better to do concentration curls the old fashioned way or using a concentration curl machine?

oddly enough advice from a guy who says he teaches seniors one arm chins for golf ...very strange indeed..who also never trains arms himself but thinks his power rack basic workout is the only way to train ...like he wrote "common  sense training" indeed... ::)

I am with you on this. Sometimes machines help us to do the movement strictly. When I use my inner knees as a fulcrum, I tend to be distracted by the pressure on my knees rather than the movement. This is not an issue with the concentration curl machine, since knees aren't involved.

I just cheated on my diet and ate a few potato chips, which I did share with the pups. Think I will now consume a protein drink and hit the hay.

I particularly enjoy weighted hyperextensions. I use a 25 lb. plate held behind my head when I do them. BTW, what is a scot curl?

I think  what you call a concentration curl on a machine, steve means a Scott Curl. I use either a machine or a bench with a bar/dumbbells but can use a low pulley too. scott curls are usually seated but can be standing and your upper arms are immobilized to train your biceps and people say the lower bicep area although not really true because some people have a gap there which is genetics(like me, but i have high biceps but short)

Hmmmm...guess the little guy is upsets with me...again.

Of course I never said anything close to training senior citizens, on the one arm chin, for golf. Why the lie's all the time? Anyone is free to read any of my past post (years now) to see the many, many options suggested for training. Might also run through some of the crude and pretty nasty stuff the little guy has said to others. Seems obsessed with other men sucking his little pecker, and suggest that quite a lot.

I don't do direct arm work because I don't have to,. they respond well enough. To me, direct arm work is the most boring thing I could ever do.  But that's just me, anyone enjoys the need  to do  arms, than good for them.

Now I ready myself for the many PM's I'll be getting from the little guy. Main theme will be his punching me in the face (while standing on a ladder?) and his homosexual offer for me to suck his little pecker. Good Luck with that.

first of all you did write you trained seniors with one arm chins for golf..do not talk BS. see some of us work in gyms here and know you are a fool..but this little guy would love to punch you this is true. regards to pm´s i do not write to you. I wrote you´re a tool and you are a tool. think you are hard with your hand made tattoo? the more you write the more i think you are a ball bag. Now you come on this thread and just write arrogant posts and this is not just my opinion. Go and write to Ronald and send him my posts. Infact just piss off you are a waste of space.

Dear little person,

Produce the thread that I endorsed the one arm chin for senior golfers. Seems one arm chins bring out the envy in you, of others. Some women can do one arm chins, so what's the big deal?

Why lie, you have PM'ed many times, all very negative with the usual subject of violence and preforming homosexual acts.  What's with the tat's thing, it's just what my culture does.

Don't know who Ronald is, one of the many people you swore at, and were arrogant with, in the past? It's all on record, from the beginning of your first post to the present.

This is exactly right. The machine is similar to the one in the middle video. I'll call these Scott curls or Preacher curls in the future. The Nautilus multi-bicep machine also uses the same principal only the upper arms rest on a pad which is parallel to the floor as opposed to slanted. I switch back and forth between these machines. I just don't do them using dumbbells while resting my elbows on my knees because I find this uncomfortable. Probably due to my boney elbows.  :D

A little hot tempered, are we? Perhaps you haven't noticed that unlike other threads on Getbig, most of us avoid resorting to the kinds of remarks you've made in the post I've quoted. In the future, if you have a beef with someone, which makes you want to flex your verbal muscle, you should do it using PM's.

I took your suggestions as just that, suggestions. I wasn't offended by them at all. In fact, I sometimes do get carried away with overtraining. It is interesting that you don't like working arms directly. My arms have been problematical in the past, in that they are slow to respond to weight training as compared to other muscle groups on me. Presently they are probably about 16" which is nothing to brag about. The biggest they've ever been is 17 1/4" which is also nothing to brag about. I have really long arms (like a Gorilla) which results in having a long bicep belly with low insertions. I suspect this affects how much peak I can build.

It would be really appreciated, at least by me, if you kept disagreements, which result in your ranting about people's sexuality and such, private or save them for the hundreds of other forums where that nonsense is the norm.  No offense intended and I hope none will be taken.

Wednesday: back

Front lat pulldown 4X12-8
Incline bench row machine 3X8-6
Low cable row 2X6-4
Reverse grip pulldown 2X6-4
One arm dumbbell rows 2X6-4

Time 30 minutes. The weight range is normally fairly heavy, except that this being the first time back doing this routine I have pretty much cut the weight load in half on many exercises. I expect to start jumping it back up fairly quickly.

This is a pretty easy day. The only exercises with warm-up sets are the first two. I don't exactly have "bat wings" yet. Any suggestions are welcome?

Took this photo in the locker room today. I don't think I look like I weigh 208 lbs. It must be those giant "love handles" ha, ha! This is about as naked as I plan to get until I think I look a little better. This is definitely a "before" photo. Like some say on Getbig, "Do you even workout?"

You'll notice that I am wired for sound and not particularly photogenic.
