I faded in the intense heat today. Ran so slow today. Near the end of my run my wife's friend was going on the board walk. Nice mature milf in a bikini.  :P

Sitting here typing drinking rum on ice. I feel really good now. Tomorrow is a kayak day in the bay. Hopefully it isn't to choppy.  Yes, tomorrow no running or lifting, yes! If anyone is wondering why I have all this free time I am retired. Currently looking for job and not a career just to have a job to report to.  I have been thinking about posting a picture of myself. Not a physique shot but knowing this board I know it will be photo shopped with some porn thing.  I just wonder what everyone looks like and I assume you do too.

And what a shame it is that some people are so evil that they'd use someone's innocent photo in a malicious way. Having said this, I encourage anyone talking a selfie or posing for a photo wear something that cannot be construed as being gay, a la me in the gym locker room wearing  orange Adidas underwear. I mean who the heck knew orange undies were gay?

nice workouts George. I like your no nonsense approach to your workouts.

I am just hitting a muscle Group a day now. I find it easier time wise and i can get Cardio/Lifting done together. I did legs yesterday because it lets my upper Body rest more and today i´ll do back.

Wide grip pulldowns to front 4 sets
Barbell Rowing 4 sets
seated Close grip rows 4 sets
Barbell Pullovers 2-3 sets ( really love how Serge Nubret did These)

Cardio + abs i´ll just do what ever i feel like on Impulse.

I think the majority of personal trainers are just used to confront new people who walk into a gym to sign on for a membership. I don't think there is much personal training going on from what I have seen in the chain gyms. One gym by me makes it mandatory that you have a free session with a personal trainer who tells you for 45 minutes why you can't do it without him. He pushed my daughter so hard she thought she ripped a bicep tendon but it was only strained. When she didn't sign on his whole demeanor changed and he had nothing to say to her. What a jerk.

I know what you are saying. from my experience it´s better to work in a privately owned Gym. Most owners are older and have experience. Sure having sunny Boy Trainers is what Fitness chains want. We do a Training session with People too but luckily we have a good mixture of Young and older Trainers. We have only one Guy who works with us who i would throw out, not just my opinion. I saw a Young guy doing a weird cross between upright rows and Barbell rows one Day(not even Close to a Yates row ;D).. i asked him what he was trying to do. this "Trainer" showed him a Barbell Row but it was just painful to watch. Of course i showed him the Correct way. Problem is some of These guys just do a "B" licence here in Germany.

I would do cardio in the morning on an empty stomach.....but I am not a morning person and the gym is so terribly busy in the am.

so I just get a quick 30 or so minutes in after the weights......I dig your workout style too.

Went a bit overboard yesterday on back, biceps and forearms.  21 sets of back followed by 10 sets of biceps and 10 sets of forearms.

I am quite sore and expect to be more so tomorrow and the next day.  I felt good so I put more effort into it.  Ouch.

My daughter and son-in-law are purchasing a membership to a gym that is a mile from our home. They have graciously included me in the family membership. Thanks. Now I will have absolutely no excuse for not hitting the gym. I mean with a gym that I could essentially walk to and one that is a short drive away, I have no more excuses for not staying in shape. My daughter has been nicely on my case for pretending to be a decrepit old man who can't manage to get his sorry ass to the gym to workout.

I'll keep you all posted as to when I get myself into competition condition. I always imagined I might win a title and earn those elusive blue stars some day if I got into such an old class that there would literally not be any competition left to beat me but damn, dudes are staying fit longer than they used to. I might actually have to put some effort into to being the oldest living bodybuilder to grace a thong on stage....not going to happen.

You are keeping it real. The last few days I have ventured out into the nether regions of this forum only to find posts which are about anything but health and bodybuilding. It makes me feel really good to come home to the mature thread where I can find real posts by real people who are committed to the "sport' of bodybuilding. It is like coming home from the wars.

Trained legs today. No cardio. I must have done something to my neck and trap training chest and biceps yesterday. Feeling pain. My wife works in the office of a chiropractor. I haven't been to one in decades. I told the doc my trap and neck are giving me pain. He sends in this 110lb woman massage therapist in to massage the area. It was a deep tissue massage. Sadly no happy ending. LOL. After the massage he came back and gave my neck a couple twists and I swear I feel better.

Yesterday after I finished my chest and bicep workout I did an interval workout on the treadmill. After warm up I did 8 x 400 meters with a 200 meter fast walk rest interval in between sets. It felt great. I haven't been able to do speed work for a long time due to injuries and almost every 400 meter set I increased the speed. The last lap was in 6:59 mile pace. I know that's nothing special but just being able to do that is a victory for me. Every interval day I hope to keep bringing down my times. Tomorrow I will do a 5 miler but now that intervals are back in my arsenal I feel my times are going to drop quickly when I race a charity 5k road race.

I think this is a good method for us older Trainers. I used this before to spur a muscle Group into new growth. The Volume is low in most workouts and would maybe appeal to guys like Oldtimer because it´s easier on the Joints than Heavy Duty workouts.. while keeping Training time down.

I am familiar with Steve Holman's thoughts on lifting. He was a HIT guy and a low set guy forever as reflected in his magazine articles and books.  Now he has changed into a volume guy and said he believes this the right way to train.  He believes in general the use of 4 sets of 10 with short rests in between sets with only the last set closing in on failure. He changed his position from HIT to volume talking to guys like David Young who told him his observations from working out with some of the biggest stars of the classic period of Gold's gym. Young told him about such stars as Danny Padilla who experimented with Heavy Duty but got better results with 5 sets of 12 reps in general with moderate weights.

The material i have is old from him. still the method is good Training a muscle in three positions of Flexion .. Stretch, midrange, contracted. I´ve always done at least 3 sets but he talks of 1-2. Regardless of volume or HIT still good.
