Prime that would drive me crazy. I just had the interior of my house painted. The guys were here almost two weeks. Just don't like workers in my house. One of them was even a friend of mine. He did time for killing a guy and even has another kill that was ruled justified but that's another story. I got friends in high and low places. Just drove me crazy that we felt they were guests in my house and felt obligated to feed them. They soon expected lunch and dinner every day. They even did a half ass job in places but I didn't ride them because again the head guy was a friend down on his luck out of prison.

I use to live in a small house with my wife and 4 kids and had to make a decision to bump out the small house in a relatively expensive neighborhood or buy a big house in a less expensive town. I went for the big house 3000 sq ft. The guys from NJ can vouch for how expensive real estate is in NJ. In the end I wonder if I made the right decision from a money stand point. The smaller house in the expensive neighbor is worth more than my 12 year old house that's twice the size.

As I probably mentioned, we are remodeling our home so it will better accommodate three generations. We aren't adding any square footage because the house is already fairly large. The plan is for our daughter and her husband to help take care of us as we age in our own home. Our grandson is a senior this year and will (hopefully) be off to college a year from now. Not that we don't love him, because we do. Teenagers just are what they are; often times a pain in the butt.

The remodel started upstairs where the kids have about 1,100 sq. ft. We are redoing the bathroom and in the bedroom, we created a large walk in closet. There are some electrical and media upgrades. The big thing, as it turned out is replacing a sea of carpeting with hardwood floors.

Our home is in an upscale neighborhood. It was built in the late 70's and has neither suffered bad remodels or much in the way of updates. We've been replacing the mechanics over the last 16 years we've lived here. The furnace is new and we just added central air. Needless to say, the décor is dated. We actually replaced the shag carpet which covered most of the main floor shortly after we moved in with wool Berber. This has since developed worn spots.

Once the upstairs is done, we will begin the downstairs remodel. The first thing to go is the carpet in the living and dining room, which will be replace with hardwoods to match what we are putting in upstairs. Expense wise, the kitchen will be the killer. Since the vanity for the bathroom upstairs is costing around $1,000 I can only dread what the new kitchen cabinets are going to run.

The good news is that we hardly owe anything on our home. Unless the cost of remodeling exceeds our outside estimate of $150,000 we should be fine if we wanted or needed to sell this place.

As for two or three generations living under one roof, I will say if I had my druthers, we'd have built a duplex....like two houses joined by a glassed in breezeway. But considering my champagne taste, building from scratch would mean we'd have to win the lotto first.  ;D

One of the hardest things for me is that we will be unloading a lifetime collection of furniture and accessories. I love most of what we have. My wife is all for a change. She is ready to put it all in a garage sale, including things she inherited from her parents. Guess I can't blame her, she has been looking at some of the same things since she was a little girl. Ethan Allen and Pottery Barn, here we come.

I have actually lost sleep and had panic attacks over these changes. Really, I need to get a grip. It is all just "stuff" and it is relationships that count not possessions.

Prime, if the house is paid off there is so many things you can do financially with the house. I hope when it's finished your family is completely pleased with the results. I still have about 11 years to go on my mortgage. My house taxes are close to 9K a year and that's cheap for NJ. Thinking about selling and down sizing to a retirement community but I still have a 23 and a 16 year old living with me. I don't know if they would accept them with their rules.

This is basically what I'm doing with my workouts now. I change constantly but for a couple of weeks it has been this. About two work sets per exercise and three to four exercises a body part.

Monday: chest and back
Wednesday: legs
Friday: Delt and arms

On the off weight days have been running and body weight exercises.

So far I'm pleased with the results but I know I would really get somewhere fast if my diet was better. In a word I just enjoy beer to much. About three days a week I  drink and that's a crazy amount of calories I just don't need to smooth me out.

Your workout seems sensible. You may not get a cut as you'd like, but one should enjoy life too. A little beer never hurt anyone.

Our taxes are half what yours are. I've read where New Jersey's property tax rate is among the highest in the country. The assessed value of property in Oregon is limited to not more than a 6% increase annually. This keeps our property taxes more affordable.

We have a seventeen year old living with us. He is our grandson. Our daughter is 39 years old and our son-in-law is 41. They definitely pull their own weight around here, not only doing a lot of the gardening, housework, cooking and helping with my wife's many doctor appointments, they pay us a sizeable rent each month. Eventually, this place will be theirs, after my wife and I pass.

Shoulders and arms today.  Five sets of DB laterals increasing the weight each set and dropping the reps accordingly.  Next up 5X5 machine shoulder presses again increasing the weight each set and then finally (for shoulders) five sets of rear DB laterals.  Much better feel than the machine ones.

Four sets of cheat BB cheat curls increasing the weight and dropping reps from 10 to 5 followed by five sets  of alternating DB curls follow the same protocol.  Tricep pushdowns for five sets and then five sets of  five reps each on machine close grip bench presses.

One set of machine sit ups with as much of the weight stack as I could do in good form for 12 reps.  All done.  I actually feel really good today1

5x5 is great for power. Good you warmed up on the cheat curls working up in weight. I´m sticking to 6-15 reps at the moment. Chest back 6-8 reps.. shoulders 10-12 and legs 10-15. i did go up to 20 reps on Front squats last night.

yes works good for me. Higher reps work on any muscle group but on legs especially. I feel my legs more.Is it a pump ? ;D The feeling is great and the lower legs ..the quads are one of the most important muscle group in the human body. Bill Grant said higher reps are for Bodybuilders and i agree with him on leg training.

Trained legs today. I'm not using heavy weights due to the running but I'm trying to make the exercises harder by doing a complete range of motion and good form. The heaviest I got was 245lbs in squats but it was ass to grass deep with a narrow stance.

The job I retired from is having one of those crazy 5K races with numerous military type obstacles, actually shooting a hand gun at one point in the race and mud. I guess it's a mud biathlon minus the skis and snow, lol.  What's the deal with the mud nonsense with these races? I keep my car prestine and the thought of having any mud getting on the seats drives me nuts. I really want to see the guys I worked with but what the hell? The field they are having this at is at a military base and is famous for having a million Canadian geese on it. So they are going to make mud out of dirt and goose shit?  I want to do it bad but I might have to pass.

This is closed race to the public and right around the same time the Marines are having a 5k race on the boardwalk that's open to the public with zero mud. I'm torn between seeing the guys and the desire to keep clean.  ;D

Last Night i was talking to a Guy in the Gym who goes to the Highland Games here in peine(about 40km) from where i live. He said they are always looking for new people for the traditional competition such as Farmers walk and stone throwing. also have a Tug of war team and suggested i try it. I am seriously thinking about training for it 8) I think chaos can give me some useful tips here... i will have to invest in a Kilt  ;D

Been thinking about getting a kilt for a long time and one of the two Tartans would be appropriate.. the lighter one(Top) is the Tartan from my family name and the darker one is "hume" or Home, the Tartan from my old Regiment which i am allowed to wear.

Today i trained shoulders+arms

front barbell press 3 sets
Side raises 3 sets
lying across body rear delt raise with dB 3 sets
BB close grip upright rows 3 sets

Seated dB curls 3 sets
SPIDER BB curls 3 sets
Parallel bar dips 3 sets
Incline Bench BB extensions 3 sets

Abs: crunches with Ab Roller / cardio 30 mins crosstrainer.

i did not train shoulders yesterday because i felt my shoulders were not really ready after back training on Wednesday. just dropped a couple of exercises on Arms. No wonder Oldtimer likes Inverted rows. worked my rear delts very well as i was bringing the bar higher than i would on say BB rows. All good stuff.
