My wife gets pissed when I flirt.

Prime regarding tricep pushdowns you mentioned on a previous post I see there are two different methods. One is standing upright keeping your upper arms relatively still just moving your lower arms (radius and ulner part). The other is where guys bend over and it resembles to me almost like doing a standing dip with the bar. The second respective mentioned method you can handle a lot more weight than the strict upright version. Again they are two different exercises for triceps. Dorian Yates uses the upright version and Kevin Levrone uses the bent over dipping type tricep extensions.

What is better? It's a hard question to answer from a kinesiology view point. Both are good exercises.

about 36 minute mark.

about 2:40 minute mark

Anyway these are my thoughts. Prime regarding a touch screen on a tablet I find it really hard to type on them but maybe that's just me.

Tuesday Night i had a bit of a Drama at home. About 10 pm here my power went out.. did the normal fault finding stuff you do but could not find the problem. So Wednesday morning i had an Electrician here. Found out a plug socket in my Bedroom was the problem. A couple of wires were burned .. I thought i smelled something ... :o but did not see anything. Had to open a bit of the wall but not so bad as itīs like a round capped area made to open was going to Decorate soon anyway...as the wallpaper he cut away. Good job i still had my phone for getbig... :D ;D

During storm Sandy at the  New Jersey shore here my power went out for a week. I bought a gasoline powered generator. Cost me a good buck. Loud as hell and ate gas like you wouldn't believe. 7 gallons  for about 10 hours of power.  We had two refrigerators, lights, heaters, and other stuff connected through a maze of wires. We made a hot spot for our lap top computers with our phones for wifi.

Glad your power was a relatively easy fix. Losing power reminds us of how we need to know how to survive without modern technology.  In times of war or natural disaster we will have no heat, power, and stores will run out of food relatively quick. I'm not a nut survivalist but I have a friend who stock piles canned food in his garage. He uses and rotates stock. He rightly says there will be chaos if there is a disruption to the food supply to stores. It's easy enough for a terrorist to do.

we all have moments like this Steve... i like to go for a long walk and you have peace to think things over more calmly. At christmas when sitting with your Family you know itīs all worth it ;) family is important. oh and nice workout too.. ;D

This is very true. sounds like you and your wife compliment each other well, both very wise...

some might laugh at your Friend but i think he is very wise. Ever watch that 70s/80s Film the Day after ?  pretty scary stuff. Lucky the power went out at about 10pm..just went to bed. A week no power is hard and you are correct we take a lot for granted. still iīve cooked in all sorts of condition in freezing snow in a hole in the ground..

I know life can get hard sometimes. I have 4 kids and use to work the craziest of hours. An example of this would be 4 days going into work at 11PM and then 4 days going to work at 6AM. This was all consecutive. Then the job had a lot of stress.

One constant was working out. I always managed to get the workouts in. Sometimes with limited time you have to go the HIT route just to save time. A 45 minute weight workout will fit better into your busy day. Doing a Yates type workout of one set to failure can be a blessing when time is a problem. Training at home helps. Driving 20 minutes to a gym then lifting for 2 hours is huge time block of your day. I also found it good to include training on my days off from work.  If you're doing something like a 4 way split training body parts once a week if you are doing two of those workouts on your day off then only two of your work days will include weight workouts. Running for cardio is ideal because you can just put on a pair of running shoes and go out your door for a 20 minute run on off training days. Fast and quick.

Emotionally don't use steroids. When on you will feel mentally fantastic, aggressive, and confident. Off cycle when the drugs leave your system you will feel depression, nervous, and timid. Both testosterone and estrogen play a powerful roll on emotions and mental well being. Anyone who has teenage daughters and sons can attest to this.  ;D  If you're not competing for money and supplement contracts let the steroid stuff go. Risking health for compliments is insanity. You will look good without it. You will never look as good as you do with it but you will surprise yourself once your hormones are back to normal.  (not accusing you of using)

Going to church is an important part of feeling better. Going to go this Monday morning. Remember rest is important too.

What I'm going through right now is that I reached the age limit for my job and I am on a pension. I lost about 45K of my income but my expenses went through the roof trying to help my son through college. I live in my dream house with my dream gym in my 9 foot tall ceiling 1300 sq ft. basement. I know I'm going have to sell my house soon and downsize. It's killing me everyday knowing that time is coming. I'm searching for job but striking out. I guess downsizing a house isn't the end of the world but it hurts my pride and I know it will hurt my family.

He never trained like that in his younger years. (40's an 50's) Now he states what you mentioned above is the best way to train. Yes for a guy in his 70's it might be.

yes i think he has found what works for him at his age. Rich i know you have wrote this before but you should really look into working as a Trainer at least part time. I know the piece of paper means nothing but still.. you would make a great trainer.

Last night while fixing dinner, I managed to slice open my hand with a chef's knife. The cut was pretty deep but fortunately not too long and no arteries were cut. My son-in-law and daughter fixed me us with surgical adhesive and tape and then wrapped up my hand like a mummy. Hopefully the skin is glued back together. Remember when you used to have to get stitches for cuts?

I am not going to the gym today. I am taking a Christmas tree, ornaments and lights to my sister who lives in Salem, OR. I am paying her storage fees again this month as a Christmas present.

Yesterday I intended to work legs as I did last week. My wife wanted to go to the store for stocking stuffers. I was nervous about just dropping her off as we've done in the past, so I missed the gym yesterday too. If I can get legs in tomorrow, I am going to call it good for the week and take Wednesday and Thursday off, (the gym is closed on Thursday anyway). I'll resume workouts on Saturday and be back to normal by next week, hopefully.

Thanks for the advice suggesting becoming a trainer. I have been sitting on the fence on this one for awhile. Several guys I worked with were surprised I didn't go into it when I retired. In the US many of the commercial gyms barely use personal trainers. They call them that but their function is to be salesmen selling gym memberships. Signing people up for personal training is a secondary function. Most of the personal trainers in the states that I have seen are female cheer leader types and guys on juice in their 20's.

Almost all gyms now won't allow an outside personal trainer to train clients in their gym if you're not an employee of their gym.  I was actually thinking about training people in their own homes carrying some equipment in the trunk of my car. Maybe I will make that leap. A new year is coming.

Trained delt and triceps today. One set to failure. I warmed up if needed. Using moderate weight to fail at a relatively high rep count. Weight workout took 40 minutes.

Press behind the neck 1 x 12
Dumbbell press 1 x 13
Dumbbell lateral 1 x 20
Pulley lateral 1 x 17
Rear delt raise 1 x 15
Dumbbell shrug 1 x 20

Weighted dips 1 x 13
Pulley push downs 1 x 17
lying tricep extensions with ez bar 1 x 10
reverse grip D handle tricep extension 1 x 18

Weighted floor crunches 1 x 55
Pulley crunches 1 x 35

Took about an hour break and then went for a two mile run in the park.  I took roughly a week off hoping my injuries would feel better. Shoulder isn't that bad since I used moderate weight and strict sets. My foot however swelled up after the run with my nagging plantar fasciitis.

Hope to hit back tomorrow and go for another run.

There are people who want "mature" trainers like us. where i work we have a good mix of young and older trainers. Good idea doing personal training and going to your clients. Get yourself on a home page and some Flyers.

Last night i did Chest.

Incline BB press 4 sets
Incline Flys 4 sets
Incline DB press 4 sets
Decline press 3 sets

Doing a bit more for upper chest now. I am getting to like hitting upper chest first. Decline for 3 sets was enough at the end.
Cardio was on the Bike 30 mins and 15 mins rowing machine. Never bothered with Abs as after Rowing my midsection felt good.

I used to get pretty decent pec development with weighted dips, seemed to hit more of lower chest though
Looks like a solid routine

Dips are great. i like Decline press too. Not because of the shorter range of motion or that i can lift more but itīs effective. I do however think i need more upper work so i will give it more attention. Using about 35% and not 45% DBs or BBs. Flys too. Although i am very careful on incline Flys.

I am careful because of an injury but i do like DB flys. Just careful on the Inclines. Flat/Decline Flys no problem. I just never really got into cables for chest.

Did quick legs before driving all over for Christmas -

Squats  8 x 3 @ 335, 2 min breaks between sets
standing calves - 3 x 25- 1 min breaks
leg curls - 3 x 12 - 2 min breaks

As I get older, I hate legs more and more, and I don't really train them that hard to begin with ..... bad omen I think
